Children and young people (CYP) up to 18 years of age living with mental health difficulties often present to or accommodated within both paediatric and adult areas of the Trust, including the Emergency Department (ED) and the paediatric ward, whilst receiving medical care and/or awaiting a mental health assessment.

The Trust has seen an increase in the number of children and young people presenting and admitted to paediatric and adult wards, as well as those detained under the Mental Health Act (MHA).

The post holder will carry out assessments, provide relevant specialist mental health training, supervision and debriefing, and act as the interface between CYP ED and paediatric ward, and specialist mental health services (including the local Eating Disorder Service, Locality CAMHS Services and the Crisis team).

Main duties of the job

This post will play a key role in leading and supporting staff with the management of patients experiencing mental health difficulties and providing expert clinical knowledge in the management of mental health issues for children and young people and their families. This post is crucial in raisingawareness and promoting a wider understanding of Mental Health for CYP, requiring an evidence based approach to education.
