Do you enjoy working autonomously?

Do you enjoy variety in your job?

If so, we are looking for an experienced Midwife to join our postnatal and Transitional Ward Team.

We are looking for a dynamic, inspirational midwife to transfer their existing skills and interests to our unit. Midwives that join our team are based on our postnatal and Transitional Care Ward, but may be required to be redeployed to the delivery suite.

We have level 2 Baby friendly accreditation and rated GOOD at the last CQC inspection in July 2021.

As a trust, we care for approximately 6000 births every year and cover a very diverse population. This is an exciting opportunity for midwives, who are passionate about making a difference to join our team of highly skilled midwives in maternity.

We want to help you develop and enhance your skills and maximise your potential in all aspects of midwifery. We actively encourage staff development and have a fantastic clinical education team to provide our in house, multidisciplinary professional development training. We have excellent links with local universities for post registration development.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for highly motivated and enthusiastic midwives who have a keen interest in all aspects of postnatal care.
  • Act as a role model, presenting a positive image of self, team and the organization
  • As shift lead, be responsible for the delivery and co-ordination of care, through appropriate professional practice, delegation and supervision of duties carried out by junior staff
  • Set, monitor and maintain standards of care to improve the patient experience and outcome of care
  • Proactively manage risk and maintain patient safety, conforming to health, safety and security legislation, policies, procedures and guidelines

Transitional Care

Assess care needs, plan follow-up of any babies identified as requiring TC in the postnatal period.

Safely administer prescribed medications.

Develop TC in line with the Trust's guidelines, striving to raise the TC provided in line with the BAPM Framework.

Document TC in the Baby's Maternity Clinical Digital record and ensure appropriate communication with MDT across the maternity pathway.

About us

Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust (SWBT) is an integrated care organ isation with a budget of approximately 600 million and over 7,000 staff. Diversity and social care is at the core of what we do as the Trust provides Community and Acute Services to over half a million people in an urban centre that demands massive regeneration and has substantial premature mortality.

Our new acute hospital, the Midland Metropolitan University Hospital (MMUH), opens in 2024 and will provide care to our local population from first class, purpose-built premises. As a result, the base of this role may change to MMUH from 2024 (or beyond). If this is applicable to your role, you will be informed during the recruitment process and continuing your application with this understanding. The development of the new hospital will play an important role in the regeneration of the wider area and in improving the lives of local people and reducing health inequalities.

We have three newly emerging strategic objectives:
  • Our People - to cultivate and sustain happy, productive and engaged staff
  • Our Patients - to be good or outstanding in everything we do
  • Our Population - to work seamlessly with our partners to improve lives
