We have an exciting opportunity to join a highly supportive senior leadership team within the Theatres & Anaesthetic Directorate as a Lead Practitioner.We are looking for an enthusiastic, ambitious and self-motivated individual who is forward-thinking and demonstrates excellent leadership skills. This role will provide supportive, engaging and authentic leadership for the team, to improve both colleague and patient experience at RBFT.

The Theatre and Anaesthetic Directorate leads the service delivery for a wide range of specialities including robotic surgery, across three sites the Royal Berkshire Hospital in Reading, Prince Charles Eye Unit in Windsor and West Berkshire Community Hospital in Thatcham, totalling twenty-four theatre suites. The directorate's portfolio also includes Emergency, Trauma and Obstetrics services.

The successful candidate will play a key role in continuing to build on Theatres and Anaesthetic Directorate's reputation for delivering high quality, well-led services in a hospital that is rated Good by the CQC.

The successful candidate will work with the Matron, Directorate Manager and Clinical Director to ensure high quality and safe care is delivered as well as playing an active role in service development, innovation and engaging our teams.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will work closely with the Theatre and Anaesthetic Matron and Directorate Manager to ensure delivery and compliance with key performance indicators and performance targets whilst actively promoting the Trust's strategies.

To undertake this challenge, the successful candidate will need to work collaboratively to support the continuous development and improvement of the service provided.

The post-holder will be responsible for the management and clinical leadership of a team of professional qualified nurses, ODP's, HCA's and support staff to in order to deliver to a high standard, a safe and efficient perioperative service.

To fulfil this role, you must be enthusiastic, committed and demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills. With a responsibility for the day-to-day line management of the speciality Clinical Leads, the ability to engage and motivate in order to deliver exceptional patient care is vital to the role, demonstrating strong leadership and communication skills.

Job description

Job responsibilities

Provide management and clinical leadership and overseeing a team of professionally qualified nurses and ODPs, HCAs and support staff in the delivery of perioperative service and deputising for the T& A Matron as required.

Responsible for the strategic direction of patient-focused programmes of care, which address the complex and changing health and well-being needs of the client group across PCEU, RBH and WBCH.

Actively contribute to the strategic planning of team projects, identifying interdependencies across projects/functions, potential impact on wider organisation, resource requirements and building in contingency and adjustments, as necessary.

Work with the lead clinicians, theatre and care group managers / directors, to set and deliver the strategic vision of the services.

Implement policy to support the development of the service.

The post holder displays excellent communication and leadership skills, and is responsible for the day-to-day line management of the team for which they are responsible.

Work with the T& A Matron and the Directorate Manager to ensure delivery and compliance with key performance indicators and performance targets whilst actively promoting the Trust strategies.

The Lead Practitioner is a budget holder and authorised signatory for financial and physical resources.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Registered ODP or RGN
  • Leadership and Management Education and Degree level or Equivalent


Desirable

  • Detailed experience in facilitation / teaching / assessing / coaching
  • 5 years post-qualification, of which 2 years must be in in specialist area
  • Experience of successful change management within speciality


Experience

  • Evidence of recent clinical practice in specialist area and leadership at band 7


Desirable

  • Evidence of active participation in organisational development
  • Evidence of working strategically
