INTERNAL ONLY TO NORTH CUMBRIA INTEGRATED CARE NHS FOUNDATION TRUST (NCIC) EMPLOYEES ONLY

Applications are sought from highly motivated individuals with either a nursing background or other relevant degree to support the delivery of a portfolio of clinical trials and other research studies. The successful applicant will be expected to work across a range of clinical specialties in both the acute and community settings. These include cardiovascular, acute medicine, anaesthetics, surgery, sexual health and neurology, matching skill-set and experience wherever possible. The post holder will work closely with the local Clinicians, Clinical Departments, fellow Research Practitioners, Administrators, Researcher Team Leaders and R& D Manager in developing and maintaining the research infrastructure to support, promote and organise patient recruitment, education and monitoring of trial patients and the collection and documentation of accurate data. They will also be required to provide research support and information for research staff, patients, volunteers and relatives as appropriate.

This post involves patient contact and does not involve laboratory activities. Excellent communication and good diplomacy skills are required as well as developed organisational, time management and computer skills. Travel to sister sites may be required.

Main duties of the job

  • To assist with, or take the lead on in own specialist area, the setup and C& C process for studies.
  • To recruit participants to research studies through liaison with local research networks and clinical teams
  • To obtain valid informed consent to take part in research studies, providing complex verbal and written information in the process of explaining study involvement.
  • Liaise with the sponsor CRAs and/or monitors during the conduct of a trial under the advisement of more senior Clinical Research Nurses/ Practitioners
  • To collect research data through standardised assessment measures completed with participants.
  • To maintain Trust records and any trial databases and, ensuring entries are complete, accurate and up-to-date in accordance with the Trust policies, the protocol and Good Clinical Practice guidelines
  • At least 75% of time will be spent on the above responsibilities/tasks

Standard Check: �18 + Administration cost of �3.85 = �21.85. Deducted at �6.85 from 1st month salary and �5 deducted from salary over following 3 months.

Enhanced Check: �38 + administration cost of �3.90 = �41.90. Deducted at �11.90 from 1st month salary and �10 deducted from salary over following 3 months.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • oRegistered nurse (e.g. mental health, paediatric or general adult) or allied healthcare professional or Psychology or neurosciences degree or Degree in biological, biomedical or related health sciences subject


Knowledge

Essential

  • oExperience of working in NHS environment with patient contact
  • oUnderstanding of research process and NHS ethical and research governance procedures
