An exciting opportunity has arisen for a talented and highly enthusiastic individual to join the Postgraduate Medical Education team. Applicatns are invited to apply for the role of Postgraduate Medical Education (Doctors in Training), which will ensure the provision of medical education services across all Trust sites (Queen Elizabeth, Heartlands, Good Hope and Solihull Hospitals) relating to planning, delivery, and evaluation of teaching activities, and training programmes for Doctors in Training.

The post holder will have substantial knowledge and experience of supporting junior doctor educational programmes, and will be able to provide specialist knowledge, advice, and guidance on all Postgraduate Medical Education matters.

The post holder will be responsible for line managing and supporting a distributed team of administration staff supporting Doctors in Training. A high degree of initiative and decision-making skills are essential to this role, as this is a complex and multi-faceted department requiring substantial knowledge and experience of Postgraduate Medical Education, together with a considerable level of awareness with regards to Junior Doctor requirements. The post holder will also need to demonstrate the ability to communicate and manage effectively, supporting the needs of the service.

Main duties of the job

We currently have 2 positions available -- both however, will be require the successful post holders to have a flexible approach to work, and be able to travel to any of the University Hospital Birmingham sites, to ensure the need of the service are met, and staff working across the various Hospital sites are fully supported.

This vacancy is currently offered as permanent, full time (37.5hrs per week), working 09:00am until 17:00pm - Monday to Friday.

Person Specification



  • *Degree/ equivalent in business studies/ management
  • *Management qualification to Postgraduate Diploma level or equivalent management experience
  • *Evidence of continued professional education/development
  • *Mental Health First aid



  • *Experience of working in an Acute NHS Hospital Trust
  • *Knowledge of Postgraduate Medical Education agenda and activity in the NHS
  • *Experience of working in Medical Education and/or equivalent role on healthcare
  • *Specialist knowledge of Postgraduate medical curriculums, including Doctors in Training, Locally Employed Doctors and the CESR programme
  • *A detailed understanding of Postgraduate examinations and assessments
  • *Ability to work autonomously and work is supervised rather than managed
  • *Demonstrable knowledge in the following areas:
