Main duties of the job

Develop, promote and implement high quality, evidence based, and cost effective use of medicines at the interface, in a manner that maximises the benefits of medicines to patients and service users whilst minimising clinical, legal and financial risks.To participate as an active member of clinical teams in Inpatient Wards and CMHTs/PCMHN to support the safe and effective use of medicines.To provide clinical pharmacy advice on the management of patients with mental illness in order to maximise benefit and minimise risk in relation to medicines.To support and participate in clinical audit and research.

To provide education and training to primary healthcare staff, service users and carers.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Current and continued registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council as a practicing member
  • Equivalent knowledge and experience to a level above Masters Degree in Pharmacy or equivalent acceptable for registration by the General Pharmaceutical Council
  • Postgraduate Certificate or Diploma in relevant area of pharmacy practice, or equivalent experience of at least two years post registration. Willing to work towards a postgraduate Certificate or Diploma in psychiatric pharmacy practice.
  • Willingness to work towards qualification as an independent Non-Medical Prescriber


Desirable

  • Member of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society and willing to work towards Foundation or Faculty membership
  • Qualification as an independent Non-Medical Prescriber
  • Certificate in Management studies or equivalent experience


Experience

Essential

  • Relevant post-registration clinical pharmacy experience including Mental Health
  • Experience of working as a member of a multidisciplinary team
  • Experience of clinical audit


Desirable

  • Experience of managing staff
  • Relevant post-registration clinical pharmacy experience including Mental Health (1) and Primary Care (2) involvement.


Skills and Competencies

Essential

  • Advanced theoretical and technical, clinical and pharmaceutical knowledge relating to the promotion of high quality, effective and cost efficient use of medicines, including a wide range of work procedures and practices
  • Confident and assertive when dealing with other professionals
  • Excellent interpersonal, influencing and negotiating skills including effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Evidence of Continuing Professional Development
  • Proficient IT skills, e.g. ability to use Microsoft Office applications, internet etc.
  • Good organisational skills e.g. prioritising and time management, and able to work as part of a team or alone
  • Ability to work under pressure and demonstrate good time management
  • Ability to cope with emotional lability and distress amongst the client group


Desirable

  • Tutoring and training skills
  • Evidence of writing procedures, guidelines and protocols
