The post holder will lead a team of registered nurses and nursing assistants in the delivery of mental health care. The post holder will promote the interests of service users and ensure that delegated nursing care is effectively implemented in a safe manner. The post holder will exercise professional accountability and responsibility using professional skills, knowledge and expertise in changing environments, across professional boundaries and in unfamiliar situations. The post holder will use research, audit, enquiry and scholarship to plan, implement and evaluate concepts and strategies leading to improvements in care.

Main duties of the job

We are committed to staff development and provide encouragement and support to staff to continue their lifelong learning. We are also passionate about the supervision process. You will be expected to fully engage in the process for yourself and provide direct line management and supervision for others.
  • To actively provide effective clinical leadership and take charge of the ward when on duty
  • To provide leadership and support to the other inpatient wards whilst on duty
  • To deliver prescribed care to a defined group of patients within an agreed framework
  • To plan and implement a structured approach to nursing care which takes account of service user choice
  • To accurately observe service users in order to assess needs and evaluate progress
  • To promote an environment for effective practice, complying with all health and safety requirements

The successful post holder will be expected to work shifts covering 24 hours, seven days a week and both full and part time contracts are available.

Ramsey Unit is a 15 bedded mental health unit for those individuals with dementia

About us

The Bay �7k Welcome Bonus package applies to this role. The bonus is only available for people who are not currently employed (or who have not been employed in the last 12 months) by any NHS provider trust in the Lancashire & South Cumbria Integrated Care System in a like-for-like role e.g. a Band 6 Registered Mental Health Nurse at another Trust in the LSC ICS would not be eligible for the bonus if moving to a Band 6 Registered Mental Health Nurse role at LSCFT. Bank only workers for Lancashire and South Cumbria NHS Foundation Trust are eligible for the scheme if they have not held a substantive role in Lancashire & South Cumbria Integrated Care System in the last 12 months (subject to all other terms and conditions being met). These incentives are subject to recovery clauses within the first 24 months of employment. This bonus is applicable to any successful candidate whose interview for this role is conducted prior to 30th June 2024.

The Bay �7k Welcome Bonus package is designed to attract and retain the very best staff in post. The amount a new starter would receive is shown in the Welcome Bonus Payment Schedule below:
  • �3,000 after 2 months of employment (counted from start date with LSCFT)
  • �2,000 after 12 months
  • �2,000 after 24 months

PLEASE NOTE: This bonus scheme is subject to a Repayment Clause should the post holder leave this role within 24 months of commencing employment.

Qualifications

Essential

  • oRegistered Mental Health Nurse (RNMH)
  • oPreparation of mentors certificate, ENB 998, or equivalent


Knowledge

Essential

  • oThorough knowledge of the mental health act 1983
  • oAn understanding of, and an ability to performance manage junior staff
  • oAbility to conduct management supervision
  • oDemonstrates knowledge of ward manager responsibilities and capability to act in the role in the absence of same


Experience

Essential

  • oExperience of team building and practice development.
  • oExcellent clinical intervention skills
  • oExperience of working within mental health services at band 5
  • oAn ability to undertake control and restraint training
