We are looking for a dynamic and forward thinking leader to join LHCH research leadership team. The post holder will be key to delivering the research strategy and trust strategic objectives. They will be responsible for communicating and influencing the cardiothoracic research agenda both at LHCH and within the Liverpool city region. This will be done collaboratively through the Liverpool CRF, Liverpool Centre for Cardiac Science (LCCS), Liverpool Health Partners (LHP) as well as through NIHR NWC RDN. Additionally they will be responsible for the Clinical Audit and Effectiveness department and ensuring that national and mandated audits are completed, and that staff are enabled to use data to ensure they are delivering effective and safe care.

Main duties of the job

The main duties of the job will include leading and delivering the research strategy, managing operational out put and ensuring the department is meeting key metrics. Additionally the post holder will be fundamental to ensuring there is a key patient and public co-production approach across the research portfolio. They will provide expertise and guidance on the governance and contractual considerations for research as well as managing the budget across departments and attracting additional income through grants and industry partners. This post will also ensure that national and mandated audits are delivered as required.

Job responsibilities

This post holder will be responsible for all aspects of operational delivery across the research and audit departments, responsible for staff wellbeing and line management. Ensuring key performance metrics are met. They will be responsible for ensuring high clinical delivery across research and good processes and systems in place that will underpin governance. Additionally the post holder will be someone who is able to influence as well as motivate stakeholders internally and externally. They will need to demonstrate effective leadership skill and interpersonal skills to aid collaboration at all levels.Please refer to the JD and PS attachment for full details

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • BSc in a health science subject or equivalent qualification
  • Educated to higher degree level: PhD or Master's degree in a health related or management field


Knowledge

Essential

  • Demonstrable experience of managing teams.
  • At least 5 years NHS experience in a management post
  • Experience of working closely with clinical and non- clinical staff on research and improvement projects
  • NHS audit/improvement experience.
  • Proven track record of delivery against strategies and plans
  • Knowledge of current local, regional, and national policy issues in quality (audit and effectiveness) and research and their governance.
  • Knowledge of the governance and legislative framework for conducting clinical research studies, including Good Clinical Practice
  • Knowledge of current national systems and structures for the funding and support of quality and clinical research in the NHS


Desirable

  • Experience in the planning and delivery of programmes of training
  • Demonstrable experience of working with service users
  • Experience of managing innovation projects
