The Under 25 Substance Misuse Team are seeking to recruit a Band 6 RGN to join our expanding service. The Under 25 Substance Misuse Team are cross county service that provide treatment and intervention to young adults with a broad range of presentations and substance use related needs.

We are looking to recruit adaptable, highly motivated, skilled RGN nurse with a range of professional expertise to be part of our team.

A background in working with young people or substance use would be of benefit but as part of an induction, relevant training can be offered to build on already existing skills.

This post offers the Trust's �4,000 Incentive for band 5-7 Nurses & Practitioners, as well as a relocation package up to a maximum of �8,000 (subject to terms and conditions).

Main duties of the job

The service provides a county wide response to young people up to the age of 25, where the misuse of substances has impacted upon their welfare, physical or mental health and an intervention is required. This would take place in a home environment or in community based locations such as Youth Justice services, Social Care settings or alongside our colleagues in social and health care.

The aim of the service is to provide our clients with the skills and knowledge to make safer and informed choices and improve both their mental and physical health as a result.

As a Band 6 RGN you will bring your professional discipline and experience to the team you will hold a caseload of complex cases working with the clients and their careers to achieve good health care and wellbeing.

This would also involve delivering interventions to assist our colleagues in providing and promoting healthcare treatment.

You will have a particular affinity for working with young people aged up to 25 and that all young people have the right to a great future.

About us

Based in East Sussex, you will offer a

countywide service. It is essential that you can meet both the travel and remote working requirements of

this role.

You will work with young people and, as needed, their careers in their homes and communities to enhance relationships, reduce the risk of the impact and effects of substance and alcohol misuse.

You will receive supervision and individual clinical/line management support.

To provide flexible, full-time, community-based interventions with young people aged up to 25, their families, and wider

professional networks as required.

To use of professional judgement and interventions to enable young people to achieve their goals and to support the best possible outcomes for them.

To utilise theory and evidence-based practice in delivery of interventions to young people.

Demonstrate strong core clinical skills and therapeutic approaches.

To engage with, and make effective use of supervision, putting learning into practice and contributing to the appraisal processes.

To engage in regular training and ongoing professional development.

Develop collaborative relationships and display strong joint working practices with fellow team members and other professional services.

Commit to and participate in team meetings, peer supervision and training.

To maintain accurate, up to date case records and work within confidentiality and information sharing protocols.

To work positively, restoratively, proactively, and professionally with a range of professional partners.

To develop knowledge and expertise in a range of substance misuse interventions, sharing across the team, wider service, and locality.

To work in a way that considers issues relating to age, sexuality, health, race, religion, culture, and life experience.

To undertake other duties within the scope of the post as directed by the Supervisor/Programme Manager.

Person Specification



  • Professional Qualification Registered Mental health Nurse
  • Registration with relevant body/nmc



  • Significant post qualification experience of working within health care settings
  • Experience of child protection
  • Experience of supervising staff
  • Experience of community working
  • Understanding of clinical governance
  • Understanding of integrated working
  • Have specialist knowledge across a range of work procedures, underpinned by theory and research Professional knowledge acquired through training to degree/diploma level plus relevant experience of working in the community
