An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our newly refurbished Haematology & Oncology Day Unit. The successful candidate will be caring, passionate and highly motivated to provide safe, high quality and compassionate care. They will work on the Haematology Oncology Day Unit (HODU) & Mobile Cancer Care Units (MCCU) supporting patients who are receiving chemotherapy and supportive treatments for haematology and oncology conditions and providing support for their families and loved ones.

Shift patterns are open to negotiation but usually include 1 long shift (8am - 8pm) and 3 short shifts (8am-6pm or 8am-5pm) over 4 day working week. Shifts are alternated between the Unit and the Mobile Cancer Units (MCCU).

Main duties of the job

To work on the Haematology Oncology Day Unit (HODU) & Mobile Cancer Care Units (MCCU) supporting patients, and their carer's, who are receiving chemotherapy and supportive treatments for haematology/oncology conditions. The post is an integral part of a multi-disciplinary team which includes pharmacy, specialist nurses and MCCU team. The post holder will contribute towards the development of clinical practice and self-developmentandperform procedures required of the role and be prepared to learn new skills relevant to the role including administering chemotherapy.

Knowledge

Essential

  • Understanding the need for evidence-based practice
  • Willingness to undertake essential training


Desirable

  • Understanding of haematology and oncology disease groups
  • Knowledge of the care of patients receiving chemotherapy and immunotherapy treatments


Qualifications

Essential

  • RGN Level 1
  • Studied to Diploma level or equivalent
  • Registered with NMC
  • Completed 6 months preceptorship period following registration
  • Recent evidence of study / professional development
  • Willing to undertake post registration study


Desirable

  • BSc / MSc in Health Care Studies
  • Recognised teaching qualification (SLIP / ENB998 / D32 or D33) Cannulation and phlebotomy IV drug delivery
  • Access to CVADs competencies Blood transfusion training
  • Blood transfusion training
  • UKONS SACT Passport
  • AIMS / ILS / ALS
  • Advanced communications skills
  • BSC post qualification
  • Haematology Oncology modules


Experience

Essential

  • Significant post qualification experience in an NHS acute setting
  • Interest in caring for Haematology Oncology patients


Desirable

  • Relevant experience caring for patients with haematology / oncology conditions Experience of administering chemotherapy
  • Palliative care knowledge
