Camden was a national trailblazer site for the mental health support team (MHST) in school initiative. We are a well-established multi-disciplinary team that provides high quality support to children, young people, and families, presenting with mild to moderate concerns.

A key remit of Camden MHST is helping schools develop their approach to mental health. Our work endeavors to join with schools in the promotion of a positive ethos and culture surrounding the social, emotional, and mental health of the entire school community.

The role of Specialist Clinician and Supervisor includes consultation, assessment, therapy/intervention, supervision, service development, evaluation and training.

All MHST Specialist Clinicians and supervisors have their own caseload befitting to their professional training and experience. You will also be involved in service development projects. Your career professional development will be taken seriously with robust supervisory support and training available.

Another key aspect to your role will be providing clinical supervision to band 4 or 6 School Practitioners through individual and group supervision.

This will be a community-based post, with most of the work taking place in school settings or other community settings. The post holder must be able to work collaboratively with other members of the team, staff from other teams as well as with our allied partners across education, health, social care and the charity sector.

Main duties of the job

  • Delivering individual, group and whole class interventions
  • Take delegated responsibility for service as well as school/community related projects and initiatives
  • Provide supervision to MHST school practitioners.
  • Provide consultation to Schools/GP's/Local Authorities as required
  • Work with the MHST Managers and Specialist Service Managers on intake and referral coordination
  • Comprehensive Assessment of service users
  • Consultation to the cross sector stakeholders
  • Formulation of care plans for service user
  • Communications and completed correspondence
  • Engage with the internal and external network as appropriate
  • Participate in Multi Disciplinary Team activities
  • Risk assessment and risk management
  • Safeguarding responsibilities
  • Make referrals as appropriate to other providers
  • Responsible for timely and accurate clinical record keeping
  • Responsible for the outcome of appointments
  • Report writing and GP letter writing
  • To communicate in a skilled and sensitive manner
  • To keep up to date with knowledge of legislation, national and local policies and issues of relevance to the service and client group
  • To undertake any such other duties and responsibilities appropriate to the grade of the post as agreed by the Team Manager

Person Specification

Qualification/Training/Education

Essential

  • Appropriate qualification as either a Clinical/Counselling/Educational Psychologist (Doctoral level training and relevant UK Professional Registration (HCPC/BPS).
  • Or as a Systemic Family Psychotherapist (MA/MSc qualification with full registration as a Systemic Psychotherapist with UKCP)
  • Or Cognitive Behavioural Therapist with relevant UK Professional registration (e.g. BABCP)
  • Or Appropriate qualification to be an existing CAMHS clinician at band 7 for example, clinical nurse specialist or mental health social worker. This must equate to a Master's degree in the relevant clinical area


Desirable

  • Post-graduate qualification in a relevant field of mental health or social welfare and demonstrate significant practice
  • CYP IAPT Trainings, e.g. CBT, Systemic Family Therapy, Interpersonal Therapy [IPT], Under 5's, Parent Training.
  • Other post-graduate qualifications in: CBT, Systemic Foundation and Diploma, Mindfulness.
  • Additional training and qualification in providing supervision
  • Additional Training in Group intervention such as Incredible Years, Solihull Approach, etc.


Previous Experience

Essential

  • Experience of undertaking delegated leadership tasks and supervising junior staff/trainees effectively
  • Experience of working with and within schools (primary and secondary).
  • Experience of working with evidence based approaches to low mood, anxiety and behavior problems
  • An enthusiasm for using Routine Outcome Measures. Ability to develop, manage and lead on outcomes data and data reporting for the service.
  • Experience of providing brief interventions.
  • Experience of working with children, young people and parents presenting with a range of mental health difficulties and challenging behaviour.
  • Formulation and treatment of children and young people with mental health difficulties.
  • Experience of multidisciplinary and multiagency working and co-working assessments and treatment.
  • Experience of providing a culturally sensitive service.
  • Working autonomously with families providing an assessment and treatment service.
  • Contributing to multidisciplinary team meetings and coworking assessments and treatment within community and / or clinic-based settings.
  • Experience in managing child protection concerns.
  • Good level knowledge of the theory and practice of psychological interventions.
  • Skills in the assessment of mental health factors for young children and their parents.
  • Experience of providing supervision/coaching role
  • Experience of providing training


Desirable

  • Experience of working with other a range of different agencies across health, education, social care and/or charities.
  • Experience of working with Health Visitors, Family Support


Skills & Knowledge

Essential

  • Knowledge and understanding of child and adolescent mental health difficulties, their assessment, and current evidence based intervention strategies.
  • Skills in the assessment of mental health for children young people and their parents.
  • An ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing to convey highly complex and clinically sensitive information to family members of all ages, students and to a wide range of professional people within and outside the NHS.
  • An awareness of current issues in service delivery within community CAMHS and other settings and an ability to contribute to service development.
  • Ability to work autonomously, managing and planning own workload.
  • High level skills in working with professional networks and the ability to advocate for and advance the mental health needs of parents and their children.
  • Ability to form excellent working relationships with colleagues and work flexibly with others in multidisciplinary and multi-agency settings.
  • Skills in providing consultation and support regarding mental health needs to other professionals.
  • Ability to identify and employ mechanisms of clinical governance as appropriate, to support and maintain clinical practice
