An opportunity has arisen for a Safeguarding Adults and Mental Capacity Act Specialist Practitioner to join the Safeguarding Adults team here at Bradford Teaching Hospitals.

The post holder will assist the Assistant Chief Nurse for Vulnerable Adults carry out operational Safeguarding in line with the Care Act 2014 and regional guidance across Bradford NHS Foundation Trust. They will provide specialist advice, training, and safeguarding supervision in relation to Safeguarding Adults and the Mental Capacity Act (MCA) and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS).

Main duties of the job

The post holder will act as a professional resource to practitioners within Bradford Teaching Hospitals Foundation Trust providing advice, safeguarding supervision, guidance and support.

The post holder will be responsible for providing expert advice on the Human Rights Act, the Care Act, the Mental Capacity Act, domestic abuse and Prevent.

The post holder will be proactive in the delivery of mandatory and bespoke training across the Trust.

The post holder will support patients who disclose abuse as well as liaison with other external professionals in ensuring robust arrangements and information sharing are in place to prevent further abuse,.

Although required to work across sites the post holder will be based at Bradford Royal Infirmary.

Experience

Essential

  • Experience and understanding of the safeguarding adults agenda
  • Experience of current teaching and assessment practice
  • Experience of service development and implementation of change through clinical leadership.
  • Evidence of influencing improvement and overcoming resistance to change.
  • Evaluation of clinical standards of care through audit and participation in research activity.
  • Significant post registration experience including in a senior role (band 6+).
  • Experience of the application and use of the Mental Capacity Act and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards.


Desirable

  • Experience in working across organisational and professional boundaries.
  • Experience of working with complex safeguarding adult cases

Knowledge

Essential

  • Understanding of application of relevant National Guidance e.g. The Care Act 2014, National Service Frameworks, NICE etc. and Legislation relating to Safeguarding
  • Knowledge of relevant national polices pertaining to Adult Safeguarding
  • Knowledge of the Mental Capacity Act and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards.
  • Knowledge of the local current issues relating to Safeguarding
  • Knowledge of learning from Safeguarding Adult Reviews (SAR's) and Domestic Homicide Reviews (DHR's) both locally and nationally


Qualifications

Essential

  • Registered nurse, Registered Health Professional or Social Worker
  • Health Service related Degree/Diploma or equivalent experience.
  • Short courses at Masters level or equivalent experience, specifically in Mental Capacity Act
  • Highly specialist training in safeguarding.
  • Mentorship/teaching qualification or equivalent
  • Evidence of on-going professional practice development with the safeguarding Adult's area.


Desirable

  • Evidence of on-going professional practice development with the safeguarding Adult's area.
  • Completion of Best Interest Assessor Training
  • Diploma level specialist training.
