We are looking for a dynamic, motivated and passionate qualified Advanced Clinical Practitioner who would like to develop their skills further and make a real difference to the inpatient experience.
Mortimer ward is a 21 bedded acute Mental Health Ward situated in The Stonebow Unit, Hereford and is part of the provision of acute inpatient services across Herefordshire and Worcestershire. It is a vital service for supporting those with acute mental health difficulties of varying complexities. Patients requiring admission may also have complex physical co morbidities and applicants should have an interest in both mental and physical health care delivery. Patients admitted can both be informal or detained under the Mental Health Act and require a holistic care approach to work towards their Recovery.
The ward has a multi-disciplinary team approach including nurses, physiotherapists, occupational therapist, activity support workers, Psychiatric Consultants and junior doctors. You will also work alongside colleagues in the Crisis Team and Adult Social Care. We also support student nurses as part of our team.
The Stonebow Unit is currently undergoing extensive redesign which will enhance the patient experience, ward safety and therapeutic environment.
This role will maintain a strong clinical focus on the ward to support the maintenance of quality and leadership for the patient experience.
Main duties of the job
Responsibilities will predominantly cover Mortimer Ward the Adult admission ward with some support for the Older adult wards, Jenny Lind (Functional Older Adult) and Cantilupe (Organic).
Reviews of all new admissions
Reviews of risk assessments
Review of mental state
Confidence in managing acute situations both with clinical decision making and Non-Medical Prescribing
Leading clinical discussions / professionals meetings / MDT meetings
Supporting medical colleagues with prescribing, clinical reviews and formulation of treatment plans
Supporting nursing colleagues in complex risk decisions such as observation levels, taking own discharge
Provide clinical supervision to Band 6 colleagues on a needs basis.
Being accessible for staff support / debrief and supervision
Being a role model for colleagues and team members
Supporting management in clinical decision making
Taking a lead with Clozapine prescribing and initiation
Being responsible for ensuring that ECT treatment referral and treatment paperwork / review runs seamlessly.
Supporting new medical colleagues with rotation into acute psychiatry. Providing support and education regularly.

- Registered Nurse Level 1 / Allied Health Professional / Paramedic / Pharmacist
- MSc Advanced Clinical Practice
- Non-Medical Prescribing (V300) / ability to work within PGDs, within scope of professional practice.
