We are offering a part time opportunity for a Physiotherapist to join our Trauma team within Cardiff and Vale University Health Board.

The University Hospital of Wales is the Major Trauma centre for South Wales. In this role you will have the opportunity to develop your skills, working across a variety of trauma wards , gaining experience in the acute rehabilitation of a wide range of trauma patients. These patients include a diverse range of trauma / polytrauma conditions, acute spinal injuries and spinal surgery.

Our physiotherapists are an integral part of the multi-disciplinary teams and as a successful candidate, you will have the opportunity to provide high quality physiotherapy to patients with diverse presentations and complex physical and psychological conditions. You will develop and deliver individualised treatment programmes, whilst growing your specialist experience and leadership skills in a welcoming and supportive environment.

To be considered for this post you must be able to demonstrate the relevant skills, experience and enthusiasm required to work within these clinical settings.

The department has close links with Cardiff University School of Physiotherapy and you will also be responsible for the provision of clinical placements to Physiotherapy students.

You may be required to work your normal contracted hours flexibly in a variety of different working patterns in response to the needs of the service where they are placed.

Main duties of the job

To work alongside members of the multidisciplinary team to deliver physiotherapy services to patients within these specialist clinical areas. This will include patients with multi-pathology and complex need and those with cognitive and behavioural problems.

They will have responsibility for managing their own patient caseload. They will participate in the on call service (overnight and weekends) where they will work independently, managing the respiratory needs of complex critically ill patients.

In addition they will provide support for the clinical supervision of physiotherapists, student physiotherapists and support staff.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Qualification

Essential

  • Degree or equivalent in physiotherapy
  • HCPC Registration


Desirable

  • Member of Chartered Society of Physiotherapy


Experience

Essential

  • Significant post registration experience in the specialist areas
  • Previous clinical experience relevant to post
  • Broad experience across physiotherapy
  • Experience as working as part of an MDT
  • Active involvement in service development and quality initiatives
  • NHS Experience


Desirable

  • Clinical supervision experience
  • Experience of teaching other disciplines


Skills

Essential

  • Demonstrate specialist skills within the specialist clinical area
  • Highly developed physical skills relevant to the clinical area e.g. manual techniques and therapeutic handling
