We have an exciting and rare opportunity due to relocation for a Deputy Department Sister/Charge Nurse in the Main Outpatient Department based in the Royal Gwent Hospital.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for an inspiring nurse who is an enthusiastic and self-motivated individual to work within the division of surgery. If you are looking for new challenge and have strong leadership skills this post is a great opportunity for you.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

We require somebody who is dynamic, innovative, and a highly motivated role model with strong leadership attributes and commitment. The successful candidate will need to show excellent communication skills to both multidisciplinary staff and patients and relatives and have the ability to manage a fast paced and challenging environment.

You will be expected to display excellent decision-making and motivational skills along with a knowledge of patient centred care all of which are essential qualities required for this post.

The successful candidate should also be able to provide clinical mentorship to other Registered Nurses and Health Care Support Workers.

You will be expected to support the department manager to lead and direct the nursing team to ensure that high standards of care are being measured and delivered to all our pateints.

Person Specification



  • OPD experience or a ability to show sound knowledge


  • Teaching and assessing qualification



  • Ability to manage caseloads of patients


  • Worked as a team leader in previous role
