We are inviting applications for an 8b Principal Clinical Psychologist. The successful applicant will provide clinical line management to 4wte clinical/counselling psychologists, working in Home Treatment Teams. You will work closely with the Clinical Nurse Manager for BSMHFT's Home Treatment Teams (HTTs) & will be professionally line managed by the Consultant Lead Clinical Psychologist for Acute & Urgent Care Psychological Services.

You will be a clinical or counselling psychologist who is passionate about working with service users with severe & enduring mental health problems, currently in crisis. You will provide clinical input to one HTT, providing comprehensive psychological assessments and formulations for our service users to help them more fully understand their difficulties. Additionally, you will provide clinical support and guidance to the multidisciplinary teams, via consultancy, formulation development and sharing, along with staff supervision, training & reflective practice.

Main duties of the job

We are developing psychological services across the acute and urgent care pathway, with the aim of providing a more seamless experience for our service users. We want to support you in your career as a clinical or counselling psychologist, helping you to further develop your clinical and research skills, while also gaining experience of leadership and management. We are part of a wider psychological service across working age adults and have an annual in-house programme of continuing professional development.

We have long-established links with the clinical psychology training programmes in the region and you will be involved in the supervision of trainees from the Birmingham and Coventry/Warwick doctorate courses. We offer placements for undergraduate psychologists to work with us as Honorary Psychology Assistants and you will take a lead role in their management and clinical supervision.

You must have completed a British Psychological Society/Health and Care Professions Council accredited postgraduate training in either clinical or counselling psychology.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Registered with the HCPC
  • Eligibility for entry onto the Register of Chartered Psychologists
  • Satisfactory completion of a British Psychological Society accredited Doctoral Level postgraduate professional training course in clinical psychology
  • The Graduate Basis for Registration (further to completion of an honours degree in psychology accredited by the British Psychological Society, or, in the case of courses that are not accredited or where the first degree is not in psychology, by completion of the Society's Qualifying examination, or completion of a Society accredited Conversion Course).


Desirable

  • Post-doctoral training in one or more highly specialist areas of psychological practice.


Experience

Essential

  • Assessed experience of working as a qualified clinical psychologist post qualification, with extensive experience at the Senior (Band 8a) level.
  • Experience of highly specialist psychological assessment and individual and group based treatment of clients across the full range of care settings, including primary and secondary/ specialist care and inpatient/residential, outpatient and community team settings.
  • Experience of working with a wide variety of client groups, with clients of all ages across the lifespan and of wide-ranging presenting problems that reflect the full spectrum of clinical complexity and severity.
  • Experience of teaching, training and/or supervision.
  • Relevant post-qualification experience, and formal training in supervision, enabling the post holder to independently supervise clinical psychology trainees in accordance with relevant criteria adopted by local University Clinical Psychology Training Course criteria
  • Experience of exercising full clinical responsibility for the psychological care and treatment of referred clients, and of working within a multidisciplinary context wherein carries responsibility for the psychological aspects of a multidisciplinary care plan.
  • Experience of representing psychology within a multidisciplinary context.
