Redbridge Adult Community Learning Disabilities Team (RBCLDT), is looking to recruit an enthusiastic, skilled, and innovative Band 7 Occupational Therapist to lead the Occupational Therapy (OT) service.

The post holder will be leading the OT service and be part of the multi- disciplinary health and social care team. The post holder will have the opportunity to be involved in a wider range of clinical work directly and indirectly with service users, their families, and carers, focusing on skills development, support needs, behaviours of concern, sensory processing and any other related areas, that enable the person with a learning disability to increase their independence and quality of life.

The role will require line managing the band 6 OT and working alongside fellow multi-disciplinary leads and teams including health and social care teams, education, day centres, care agencies, voluntary sector and other organisations as required. The Lead OT will also be part of the Trust Wide LD OT community and take part in regular CPD events and peer supervision. The Lead LD OT will be receiving clinical supervision and support from the Trust wide Band 8a LD OT.

Main duties of the job

To provide Occupational therapy assessment and intervention to adults with learning disabilities in a range of setting, through direct work with the person and those in their circle of support. This clinical input can be used to recommend support and changes to the physical and social environment, develop skills and engagement in meaningful activity, support behaviours of concern and advice regarding session processing.

In addition to this the Lead OT will have the opportunity to enhance clinical supervision and management skills and be involved in service development for the OT service and wider LD team.

The RBCLDT, consists of a range of health professionals that allow for effective multidisciplinary working. This is extended to close working with social care colleagues anda range of professionals from other services, acute mental and physical health, generic community teams, education, employment, care providers and others.

This allows for person centred working and allows the OT team to find unique and individualised solutions to support our service users and their families and support staff to improve their quality of life.

  • To undertake the assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation, and discharge of service users, with the understanding that there should be communication with senior clinicians and OTs if concerns arise.
  • To use Mediquip when ordering minor equipment after assessing the clients functional needs impacted by learning disabilities.
  • To treat service users in their own homes and other community settings, assisting and empowering service users towards independence where appropriate.
  • To assist, in conjunction with the senior clinician/ team lead, in the review and evaluation of the effectiveness of OT care and practice provided.
  • To work as part of a team with other therapists, nurses, social workers, and any other members of the MDT.
  • To be conversant and comply with the organisation policies and clinical guidelines.
  • To be responsible for providing accurate records of information required by the Trust for audit purposes.
