A vacancy has arisen in the Cardio-respiratory Department for a Band 6 position in Cardiac Physiology, specialising in Echocardiography - for maternity cover only.

We expect the suitable candidates to be competent in providing a high level of care and expertise in performing a wide range of Cardiac diagnostics, whilst working towards their BSE accreditation.

You must be a well-organised individual with excellent communication skills, and have the ability to prioritise work and use your initiative. You must be committed to your own professional development and work with and support the team in developing service provision within the department.

Main duties of the job

The role of the Specialised Cardiac Physiologist is to provide a High quality, patient focused, efficient Cardiac diagnostic service within the Shrewsbury and Telford Hospitals NHS Trust.
  • Work in conjunction with the Cardio-respiratory Department manager and other staff to ensure the service needs are met.
  • To be competent at performing Transthoracic Echocardiography and reporting unsupervised or with minimal supervision. You will be expected to be working toward BSE accreditation.
  • To be able to assist with other Echo related diagnostics to include DSE/TOE.
  • To be competent in performing, unsupervised all routine investigations in the department including, but not limited to, holter fitting and analysis, lead in ETT, physiological monitoring in Coronary angiography.
  • Basic knowledge of pacing and Cardiac devices is preferable.
  • Maintain clinical competencies
  • To support and facilitate the training and assessment of Physiologist, medical, technical and nursing staff

Our main service locations are The Princess Royal Hospital in Telford and The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital in Shrewsbury.

Both hospitals provide a wide range of acute hospital services including accident & emergency, outpatients, diagnostics, inpatient medical care and critical care.

The Cardio-respiratory Department has a base at both hospital sites with Cardiac Diagnostics and Cardiac Rhythm Management based predominantly at the Princess Royal. We perform over 600 ILR, Brady and complex Cardiac device implants a year and perform approx. 1000 transthoracic Echoes a month.

We also provide community diagnostics at the Community Diagnostic Centre in Hollinswood House, Stafford Park.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Degree in Clinical Science or equivalent
  • HTec MPPM/BSc Clinical science or equivalent


Desirable

  • Registration on RCCP voluntary register
  • IBHRE/BHRS
  • ASCST Part I+II
  • BSE accreditation (part or full)


Experience

Essential

  • Exposure to basic pacing implant and follow up
  • Able to lead ETT and perform physiological monitoring during Angio with minimal supervision
  • Unsupervised Holter analysis


Desirable

  • Able to perform basic pacemaker implants and f/u with minimal supervision.
  • Experience with a range of Cardiac devices
  • Understanding of audit procedures
