The post holder will provide specialist dietetic support for a caseload of around 175 children and young people, mainly with Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes as part of the MDT.

They will be able to support the wider team with expert knowledge and guidance in relation to Paediatric Diabetes and be responsible for the service delivery as well as leading on service development and improvement alongside the Team Leader.

You must be HCPC registered and have considerable experience working at Band 6 or 7 level in Diabetes. Paediatric experience is preferable, but training can be provided.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for an experienced Dietitian to provide dietetic leadership for the children and young people's Diabetes Service, and to support provision of the widerPaediatricDietetic Serviceas needed.The successful candidate will be responsible for the day-to-day dietetic care of children and young people seen in the Countess of Chester Diabetes MDT clinics, with some limited involvement in general paediatric clinics. This will be discussed with the successful candidate and will be dependent on the post-holders experience.

Your application should include details of your recent clinical experience including any areas of specialism. We also require details of your qualifications, CPD, and registration.

The successful applicant will be expected to travel between the two main hospital sites (The Countess of Chester Hospital and Ellesmere Port Hospital) and carry out home visits as needed. You will be involved in our diabetes MDT clinics (which run in the evening twice per month), deliver level 3 carb counting education and provided structured education for families.

About us

The Countess of Chester Hospital NHS Foundation Trust provides services to West Cheshire and to Welsh patients covered by Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board. The Trust works collaboratively within the wider Cheshire and Merseyside Health and Care Partnership. Its services are provided from three locations:
  • The Countess of Chester Hospital: providing 438 general and acute beds
  • Ellesmere Port Hospital: providing 56 beds as a rehabilitation, intermediate and outpatient facility
  • Tarporley War Memorial Hospital: a base for community services which serve the local rural population.

The Trust employs over 6258 staff (headcount) which includes temporary bank staff and provides acute emergency and elective services, primary care direct access services and obstetric services to a population of approximately 407,000. This includes 357,000 residents in Chester and West Cheshire which includes Ellesmere Port and Neston as well as the Deeside area of Flintshire which has a population of approximately 50,000.

The Trust is a busy district general hospital and in 2022/2023, there were more than 503,342 patient attendances (inpatient, outpatient and diagnostic) ranging from a simple outpatient appointment to major cancer surgery. This is an increase of nearly 10,000 compared to the previous year when there were 494,387 patient attendances.

Person Specification



  • Degree in nutrition and dietetics or equivalent
  • Evidence of post graduate training to masters equivalent level
  • HCPC registration
  • Relevant student training course or qualification


  • Membership of professional body and specialist interest group

  • Substantial post graduate experience with experience of working at an advanced level
  • Sound evidence of CPD and reflective practice
  • Sound knowledge of current best practice specific to specialist area
