Main duties of the job
Provide strong clinical leadership skills, supporting, energising, inspiring and empowering others in pursuit of a shared vision to ensure the effective management of the department.
In co-ordinating the day-to-day management of the clinical area, delegates duties and careappropriately, whilst maintaining overall responsibility.
Ensures that staffing and skill mix is maintained, at all times, to a level that does not compromise patient safety, including appropriate request, deployment and supervision of temporary staff
To be involved in the development, assessment and implementation of guidelines, protocols and pathways
To provide leadership, support and guidance to staff in monitoring the planned delivery and evaluation of individualised care
Ensure safe and effective care for complex patients requiring advanced clinical skills

This post is for a Band 6 Clinical sister/charge nurse to work in a 2 roomed Endoscopy Unit. This post will include leading the unit on a daily basis and taking a lead on patient satisfaction surveys, audits, staff development and appraisals, managing sickness and absence and supporting the unit leads.
The role will encompass specific responsibility for assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating nursing care and expertise within the clinical area.To help lead and coordinate the clinical, managerial and educational requirements of the of the clinical area ensuring the highest standards of nursing practice and care are delivered as reflected by the unit philosophy.Ensuring the safety and wellbeing of services users and always working in a manner that promotes dignity and human rights through the adoption of person centred care principles
A knowledge of Endoscopy is essential and exposure to leading a team of staff would be beneficial. A minimum of 2 years as a band 5 is required.
The unit has JAG accreditation and this in turn offers some great learning specific to the role with the ability to progress in your career should you wish.

Essential
- RN1/RN2/RN12 or RN Child Registered Nurse on the NMC register. To hold the appropriate level for the area of speciality
- BSc / 1st degree (health related) or equivalent qualification / training / experience
- Mentorship / teaching qualification
Knowledge

- Up to date knowledge of current clinical and professional issues
- Knowledge of evidence based practice
- An understanding of audit and research based nursing practice
- Awareness of clinical governance and risk management issues
Experience

- To include dealing with distressed relatives, care of terminally ill and other challenging situations
- Experience of teaching / assessing / supervising others in a clinical setting
- Proven experience on managing a ward including management of rotas, managing competencies, resources and staff
