An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our hepato-pancreato-biliary (HPB) team at The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre as a Band 7 Clinical Nurse Specialist for a 12 month secondment to cover maternity.

The post holder will provide specialist advice and support to patients and their carers throughout their care pathway, as well as providing education and support to staff throughout the trust. The post holder will work with the consultant team as well as delivering nurse led services for patients with HPB cancers . The specialist nursing team is a progressive, dynamic team, keen to build our research capability, be leaders in cancer care and at the forefront of delivering outstanding care to our patients.

We are seeking highly motivated nurses with HPB and/or cancer care knowledge and experience at Band 6 or above, confident decision-making skills, excellent communicator, innovative and with a passion to always improve.

Main duties of the job

  • Leads the development of patientfocused education, including training toself-manage ongoing consequences oftreatment.
  • Be an active part in attending caseconferences, SRGs and MDTs asrequired.

Actively participates in multi-professionalmeetings, acting as patient advocate andrepresenting nursing views.
  • Takes personal responsibility for lifelong learning and personal developmentthrough clinical supervision, appraisaland maintaining compliance with Trustmandatory training.

The CNS will provide: Leadership Innovation Mastery Excellence (clinical)Act as a role model demonstrating high standards of careand providing clinical leadership to others.To develop patient pathways and be responsible fordeveloping the nursing serviceTo participate in quality initiatives within the division.Work with the Multidisciplinary team to ensure that yourcancer service complies with the national standards forsafety and quality, which are assessed throughNational Cancer Peer Review Process and activelycontribute with work plans.To work autonomously and seek collaborativerelationships with others across and withinprofessional boundaries.

Person Specification



  • Registered General Nurse
  • Degree in healthcare related subject
  • Evidence of Masters level learning.
  • Post-basic qualification in cancer/palliative care or relevant specialist subject
  • Advanced Communications Skills training or prepared to work towards
  • Recognised Leadership qualification


  • Psychological skills training- Level 2 or above
  • MSc Clinical Examination
  • Msc Research qualification



  • Substantial nursing experience post registration
  • Substantial experience in HPB oncology
  • Symptom management


  • Experience of writing policies and procedures
  • Involvement in audit and research

Key skills and attributes


  • Sound Leadership skills and the ability to be led
  • Ability to work autonomously
  • Organisational skills


  • Ability to deliver formal and informal presentations
