An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 7 Safety and Capacity Midwife to join our team at UHB.
The successful post holder will provide clinical and managerial midwifery leadership with the maternity unit. They will be based in clinical practice, responsible for ensuring that standards of care are always upheld.
Working with the Matrons they will take responsibility for providing a clear focus for the professional and effective clinical leadership and accountability for the midwifery service. They will be responsible for ensuring the efficient and effective running of the maternity wards, liaising between inpatient maternity services, NICU, Community Midwifery Service and the Gynaecology ward.
The individual will be visible and accessible to women and their families and staff, ensuring all women and their families can seek information, help and support or to communicate problematic or celebratory issues.
Main duties of the job
*Have overall responsibility for ensuring that flow is maintained through the maternity unit.
*Support the introduction of new initiatives, audits and research.
*Be responsible for overseeing the effective delivery of the safety briefing process.
*Adhere to the Trust's complaints, PALS procedure regarding written and verbal complaints, using appropriate referral mechanisms to resolve the situation. Where necessary develop remedial action plans to address any deficits identified and evidence the implementation of the action plans
*Develop robust process to ensure the effective cascading of information to team members, deciding which information can be shared and which cannot.
*Be responsible to produce comprehensive written reports / statements / records. Act as advocate for staff / women in internal and external forums.
*Leading by example ensure all staff have the IT skills to competently maintain patient electronic and paper clinical records which reflect Trust standard for documentation.
*Be accountable and responsible for accurate and legible record keeping in accordance with local policies and NMC Guidelines within own practice and within own sphere of responsibility.
*Manage the Appraisal process for designated clinical/allocated team members, ensuring that all staff receive annual Appraisal, delegating as necessary.
*Have a responsibility for the overall performance of the team.
*Assist staff to develop action plans for their own personal learning and development.
