We are recruiting for a Lead Nurse for Workforce who shares our vision to be trusted to provide consistently outstanding care and exemplary service to our patients.

You will be responsible for the strategic delivery of nursing and midwifery workforce plans and initiatives across the trust, to facilitate and monitor safe, effective deployment of the nursing and midwifery workforce to ensure we have the right staff with the right skills in the right place at the right time.

Main duties of the job

As a member of the corporate nursing team, you will be expected to demonstrate strong professional clinical leadership and provide specialist and strategic education and clinical advice across the Trust. Acting in support of the Deputy Chief Nurse, you will be a key member of the Senior Management Team across the Trust. You will support the Deputy Chief Nurse to continually improve our Safer staffing processes and policies, patient care, experience and assist with the implementation of Trust and National Initiatives.

Person Specification

Qualifications / Training


  • Registered Nurse
  • First Degree or demonstrable equivalent qualification or experience


  • Masters/ MBA (or working towards) or equivalent Qualification or experience.
  • Diploma in Management Studies or equivalent experience
  • NHSE Safe Staffing Fellow

Previous Experience


  • Demonstrable relevant experience as a senior nurse/manager within an acute healthcare setting
  • Demonstrable experience of change management/service redesign
  • Experience of using workforce metrics, including acuity and dependency monitoring
  • Experience of implementing change management/service redesign
  • Experienced in use of Allocate Health Roster system
  • Experience of Allocate SafeCare


  • Evidence of delivering nursing performance including safer staffing and reviewing establishments
  • International recruitment
  • Budget management
  • On call senior nurse or duty manager



  • Well-developed leadership and influencing skills with the ability to enthuse, motivate and involve individuals and teams across professional and organizational boundaries
  • Ability to think and plan strategically, tactically, and creatively, and to prioritise work programs in the face of competing demands
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex data and or national guidance and apply it locally
  • Ability to use IT packages including word processor, spreadsheets and presentations
  • Ability to make sound judgements and escalate when appropriate
  • Ability to interpret and utilize financial information
  • Effective organizational skills



  • Knowledge of confidentiality and information governance
  • Knowledge of the NMC Code for nurses
  • Knowledge of National Quality Board Safer staffing guidance
  • Knowledge of SNCT (Safer Nursing Care Tool)


  • Project management approaches.
