An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our award winning Finance Team. We are pleased to offer the opportunity for a Senior Finance Business Partner to join our Financial Management team. The role supports two of our main clinical areas and gives a great opportunity to get hands on involvement in a wide range of tasks and work with a wide variety of our amazing colleagues.

Based in the Finance Department within the hospital, the team work closely with operational colleagues to support robust financial management and ensures operational colleagues are able to manage their budgets effectively and confidently.

Working closely with the Assistant Director of Finance and Divisional Senior Leadership Teams this is a role which is focused on delivering high quality financial, planning and reporting information to the Surgery & Diagnostics and Womens & Childrens/Support Services Divisions.

The post holder will have a key role in ensuring the effective use of resources through providing high quality financial information, advice and support at a senior level. We are looking for an enthusiastic and committed individual with a real commitment to excellent service delivery and great communication skills.

Main duties of the job

Supporting the Assistant Director of Finance by producing and presenting reports on financial plans and budgetary performance

To ensure all transactions are recorded and accounted for correctly in order to enable the Trust to meet its statutory obligations, to inform internal decision making, and for internal and external monitoring.

To support the Divisional Senior Leadership teams to enable them to meet their financial targets and key commitments.

To plan the work of other members of the team,

Ability to work to deadlines, plan time effectively, and ensure processes and procedures are in place for use across the department. Communication across all of the finance function will be a key part of the role, alongside the ability to form strong working relationships outside of own team

Escalate areas of concern and to deputise in the absence of the Assistant Director of Finance.

Work independently and as a senior point of contactproviding a full range of expert financial advice to the management teams.

Be a key and integral part of the Divisional decision making team. Being accountable, along with Divisional leaders for financial performance

Person Specification



  • oCIMA/ACCA/CIPFA qualified with at least 5 years post qualification experience or significant NHS experience working in a similar role.



  • Ability to demonstrate detailed experience and expert knowledge of the key accounting areas, including the key procedures and policies, NHS financial legislation, key computer systems such as financial ledgers and of providing specialist advice on a full range of financial issues including both revenue and capital.
  • Knowledge and experience of working with a computerised ledger and other financial systems with excellent IT skills
  • Knowledge and experience of strategic and business planning processes
  • Knowledge and experience of the NHS financial regime, Payment by Results/Aligned Incentive Contracts, NHS Data Definitions, costing techniques /health service reference costs and Private Patients
  • High level numeric skills, competent in processing and interpreting data.
  • Ability to reconcile financial data and maintain appropriate documentation on file.
  • Ability to understand the need for consistency of both process and procedure within the finance function, and the need for continual review to ensure this is maintained. Knowledge of Performance Management Processes


  • NHS experience and knowledge
  • Knowledge of NHS Charitable Funds, Capital & Asset Accounting, capital investment appraisal techniques
  • Knowledge of cash flow forecasting, payroll services within the NHS, NHS creditor payments, Lease Car Scheme Administration



  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, including the ability to chair meetings and deal with issues covering a wide range of parties.
  • A confident, pleasant approach, willing to develop and maintain good working relationships with colleagues and working with multidisciplinary teams.
  • A commitment to behaving honestly, openly, impartially and fairly

  • Knowledge of human resource techniques, required to lead, develop and maximise the performance of subordinate staff
  • Ability to lead team building, coaching and motivating staff both finance and non-finance with regards to their financial responsibilities
