This is a General Manager role with a difference. With a directorate of 630 staff and a budget of �77 million the key to this role is the ability to manage the day to day operations while progressing the longer term strategic aims of the service. Renal services are rapidly developing and the the post holder will need to swiftly build relations and influence in and outside of direct line management relationships.

This vacancy is arising due to the planned retirement of the current postholder. In this role, you will be based at Hammersmith Hospital site and will be working as part of the Renal Service Management triumvirate team to lead delivery of a range of medical and surgical Renal services against quality, financial, performance and strategic objectives. To excel in this role, you will already have some general management experience and a solid grounding in leading a complex service and team.

Main duties of the job

- Be accountable for the operational performance of the Directorate. This will include accountability for the delivery of high quality patient care, clinical governance, patient safety, clinical quality, and delivery of financial targets.

- Have joint responsibility with the other Directorate General Managers and members of the Divisional management team for driving forward divisional wide programmes of work and service direction linked to finance, operational performance and quality.

- Work closely with the Divisional Director of Operations to implement the objectives for the directorate.

This role will be ideally suited for individuals with a good grounding in operational management looking develop and spend more time on strategic programmes alongside the day to day.

You will have strong skills in communication and relationship management with a range of internal and external stakeholders and a proven track record of managing competing demands while delivering complex programmes of work against a plan and to a deadline.

Person Specification

Education/ Qualifications

Essential

  • First degree or equivalent
  • Evidence of other specialist knowledge at higher degree or Masters level.
  • Extensive knowledge of the NHS in the acute sector with up to date knowledge of patient services.
  • Evidence of CPD.


Previous or relevant experience necessary

Essential

  • Significant experience within the Healthcare sector at General Manager level or equivalent manager including responsibility for strategic planning and budgetary control for a group of complex medical/surgical specialities.
  • Demonstrable success in delivering large scale change and performance with and through management and clinical teams.
  • Track record of financial delivery Experience of writing complex business cases and policies.
  • Experience of managing and deciding on complex employment issues.
  • Well developed IT skills to manage and report on complex performance management information.


Desirable

  • Experience of senior operational management experience within urgent & emergency medicine service
