This post is for the East team for older people services within North and East of York Locality. The locality has an over 65 population that is approximately around 25000. The team receives about 432 referrals each year. The CMHT provides Monday Friday 9am - 5pm assessment and treatment services which include the provision of care for older people with functional mental health problems as well as complex organic care for patients in their own homes.

The East team receives approximately 55 to 60% of the North East team referral.

Main duties of the job

The post is based at the Huntington House, Jockey Lane, York YO32 9XW where CMHT is based too. The Consultant has a designated office space and secretarial support 0.4 and periodic Foundation Year Trainee placement. This post holder will provide clinical and educational supervision to any junior doctor posted with them. A review is being carried out about the secretarial support and the expectation is for this to improve in the future. There are no training posts attached to this job. Two Foundation year doctor posts are rotated amongst all MHSOP CMHT teams. Trust Grade doctor post are allocated to substantive consultant posts within the locality based on yearly recruitment initiative and clinical needs of the post. There is no Speciality doctor post attached to this post.

The post holder is expected to see approximately 8 to 10 new patients a month.

The team implements purposeful and productive community service model.

Post holder is expected to provide reciprocal leave cross cover for other MHSOP Consultants in the locality.

This is a full-time post. The Consultant will provide input working to 7.5 direct clinical care (7.5DCC) and 2.5 supporting professional activities (2.5 SPA) work programme for the East team.

Job responsibilities

You will be expected to join a continuous professional development (CPD) peer group. As a Consultant Psychiatrist you should be either be a member or affiliate of the Royal College of Psychiatrists so that you are automatically enrolled on the colleges CPD programme. It is expected that you will remain in good standing for CPD with the college.

You will use your peer group to help identify and review learning objectives linked to clinical, academic and professional practice in support of your CPD.

The Trust will approve reasonable requests for study leave which have been agreed by your CPD peer group. Approval is given by the Lead Psychiatrist.

You are entitled to 30 days study leave in any three-year period. Less than full time consultants have a pro rata entitlement.

As a consultant you will be required to attend an annual job plan review meeting with your associate medical director or lead psychiatrist and managerial equivalent. This meeting will normally take place before the end of March each year. You will bring relevant data on workload in the previous year to the meeting, using electronic job planning software (SARD).

There is a need for a flexible approach to the pattern of working which may change from time to time in line with the demands from various areas of the service and needs of the population. Changes will not be made to your consultants responsibilities without full consultation.

The Trust has a well-established appraisal system which is monitored by the Responsible Officer and the Trust Board, with the Trust being the designated body. Support and training will be available through the Trusts Revalidation Team to help you become acquainted with the appraisal process and system.

  • Excellent knowledge in specialty
  • Excellent clinical skills using bio-psycho-social perspective and wide medical knowledge
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English
  • Able to manage clinical complexity and uncertainty
  • Makes decisions based on evidence and experience including the contribution of others
  • Able to meet duties under MHA and MCA

  • Wide range of specialist and sub-specialist experience relevant to post within NHS or comparable service


Qualifications

Essential

  • MB BS or equivalent medical qualification


Desirable

  • Qualification or higher degree in medical education, clinical research or management.
  • MRCPsych

ELIGIBILITY

Essential

  • Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise at the time of appointment.
  • Eligible for inclusion in the Specialist Register or within 6 months of gaining CCT
  • Approved clinician status OR able to achieve within 3 months of appointment
  • Approved under S12 OR able to achieve with 3 months of appointment


Desirable

  • Included on the GMC Specialist Register in the relevant specialty.
  • In good standing with GMC with respect to warning and conditions on practice.
