It is an exciting time to join GMMH's Addictions Network. Recent developments and investment have resulted in us being able to offer multiple positions across a range of disciplines and entry levels.

Achieve Treatment and Recovery Services provides support for people experiencing problems with drug and alcohol use across Bury, Bolton, Salford and Trafford. We are an NHS led service, working with multiple agencies in a unique partnership model. This partnership model enables us to work with patients in a holistic way focusing on the person and not the problem.

We are seeking to recruit 2 Harm Reduction leads who will deliver harm reduction interventions across our services in Bury, Bolton, Salford and Trafford. 1 post will cover Bolton and Bury and the other will cover Salford and Trafford.

The successful candidate will deliver blood borne virus screening interventions, be involved in hepatitis C micro-elimination work, needle exchange provision and expanding services into the night time economy

Main duties of the job

  • To lead on and provide harm reduction interventions, support and advocacy to service users accessing or seeking to access Addictions services
  • To ensure high quality provision of needle exchange services across the geographical footprint of the service- to provide expert advice about safer injecting, ensure robust recording systems are in place, provide staff training, guidance, and support to all staff teams at Achieve and partner agencies
  • To have a prominent role in the blood borne virus team at Achieve and with associated agencies to ensure screening and vaccinations are comprehensively delivered -including referral to treatment services, management of data recording systems, offering support and guidance to staff teams
  • To provide a key role in the micro-elimination of hepatitis C and deliver high quality targeted interventions focused on the micro-elimination of hepatitis C in substance using populations

Person Specification



  • Have experience of working (either paid or voluntary) with individuals/groups with health & social care issues



  • Educated to Diploma/ NVQ 4 level (or equivalent demonstrable experience in a health or social care setting) and further specialist training



  • Have experience of delivering harm reduction interventions


  • Able to provide examples of delivering a wide range of harm reduction interventions



  • oHave an excellent knowledge and understanding of harm reduction philosophy and be able to demonstrate knowledge of harm reduction principles in practice
  • ounderstand the stigma, marginalisation and health inequalities often facing people who use substances
  • ohave an excellent understanding of Hepatitis C micro-elimination work in substance use services
  • ounderstanding of current national policy and initiatives in the substance use and harm reduction field


  • Provide examples of how service providers can challenge stigma and act as an advocate for service users
