Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust are looking to appoint a Project Manager to join our expanding Digital Project Management Office (PMO).

The PMO is situated within the Information Management and Technology (IM& T) department, located at our Prestwich site.

The successful candidate will have extensive experience of working effectively within a project environment, with a proven record of delivering a range of diverse innovation and transformation projects to time, quality and cost.

Main duties of the job

To be an effective member of the IM& T Project Management Office (PMO) with responsibility for:
  • The successful planning, execution, monitoring, control and closure of a number of IM& T projects within your remit.
  • Providing management, guidance and support to colleagues and junior members of the PMO.
  • Being central to the continual development of the PMO and its functionality.

Education and Qualifications


  • Educated to degree level or equivalent experience


  • IM& T related qualification
  • Recognised management / leadership qualification
  • Master's degree qualification
  • Project Management qualification e.g. Prince2 Practitioner



  • Proven ability of delivering complex, large scale projects.
  • Extensive project management experience in an IM& T related area.
  • Experience of working with complex information and using persuasive and effective negotiating skills.
  • Experience of analysing complex and conflicting information effectively
  • Proven ability to manage budgets and human/financial resources effectively, demonstrating staff management and leadership skills.
  • Experience of managing complex change and benefits realisation.
  • Substantial experience in IT or related project management encompassing all stages from initiation to go live
  • Considerable experience in planning and delivery of significant organisational change.
  • Experience of assessing requirements and the development of technical/functional specifications of requirements
  • Experience of tendering and procurement of IT or related products and services.
  • Extensive experience of developing and implementing strategies, policies and action plans.
  • Experience of process mapping and service redesign
  • Experience of interpreting and implementing national guidelines and policy.
  • Experience of group facilitation
  • Evidence of exposure to working at a senior, strategic level.
  • Evidence of being able to provide training on functionality, risks and benefits of a project


  • Experience of working for the NHS and/or in mental health.
  • Experience of managing national project implementations.
  • Experience of patient or health service user-based systems.



  • To have knowledge of NHS IM& T related areas, standards and expectations.
  • To have an appreciation of best practice techniques on training delivery and awareness enhancing.
