An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced respiratory Physiotherapist who has a passion for respiratory care to join our therapy team based at Breathing Space.

The Community Respiratory Service sits within the Division of Community, Dietetics and Therapy Services. The aim of our service is to provide the best possible, evidence based respiratory care, for the people of Rotherham.

Our long-term goal being to improve health outcomes for this group of patients. Are you looking for a new challenge and have extensive experience in the delivery of pulmonary rehabilitation programs? Do you have experience of respiratory physiotherapy clinics including airway clearance, breathing control/breathlessness management and dysfunctional breathing.

If so then this may be the job for you! This role will appeal to an established band 5 looking to enhance their specialist skills and knowledge into a band 6 post, or a band 6 looking to enhance their outpatient knowledge and management responsibilities.

This is a pivotal role within the Community Respiratory Service and the successful candidate will provide leadership, specialist clinical expertise and advice to staff and patients on the management of patients/clients with highly complex respiratory needs.

Main duties of the job

To provide a high standard of Specialist Respiratory Physiotherapy to patients accessing the community respiratory service.

Undertaking comprehensive assessment of patients, using a range of recognised and specialised clinical assessment techniques including the interpretation of investigations and their results and modify intervention as appropriate.

You will undertake and supervise others in the running of evidence based face to face, virtual and telephone pulmonary rehabilitation programs, ensuring that patient outcomes are able to be demonstrated.

Formulate/develop and undertake an evidence-based treatment/rehabilitation plan taking into account the management options available. You will undertake respiratory physiotherapy clinics using specialist skills including airway clearance, breathing control/breathlessness management and dysfunctional breathing.

You will provide specialist respiratory advice and assistance to other therapy staff, medical and nursing staff and other members of the multi-disciplinary team regarding patients management.

The successful candidate will participate in CPD activities as appropriate and will be required to develop non clinical aspects of the role e.g. participation in interview panels, appraisal and audits. They will assist the team leader in ensuring all Therapy staff within the team receives at least an annual performance and development review, undertaking those of support staff as required and appropriate.

Knowledge

Essential

  • Broad range of clinical experience and the ability to translate learning into practice
  • Completed and varied band 5 rotations including respiratory
  • Specialist Physiotherapeutic knowledge of respiratory disease
  • Knowledge of Physiotherapy management of patients within respiratory care
  • An understanding of professional (CSP) core standards and HCPC standards of practice
  • Awareness of current initiatives in the NHS
  • Understanding of Clinical Governance


Desirable

  • Specialist knowledge of respiratory disease, including the ability to interpret spirometry
  • Has undertaken a Clinical Educators course

Experience

  • Knowledge of the principles of PR & contemporary issues relating to PR and community Respiratory services
  • Experience of delivering presentations to large groups
  • Evidence of participation in research/audit
  • Recent in patient experience in an acute hospital including experience within respiratory care
  • Recent NHS experience
  • Evidence of continuing professional development in relevant physiotherapy specialty
  • Experience of supervision of support staff and students


Desirable

  • Experience of working within pulmonary rehabilitation
  • Experience in interventions including, airway clearance, Breathing control, breathlessness management
  • Evidence of clinical reasoning and therapy skills
  • Experience of working within Pulmonary Rehabilitation (PR)


Qualifications

Essential

  • Diploma/degree in Physiotherapy


Desirable

  • Member of Association of Chartered Physiotherapists in Respiratory Care (ACPRC) or relevant Professional Specialist Interest Group
  • Evidence of further respiratory related courses or qualifications
