Essex University Partnership University Trust's Learning Disabilities Psychology and Behaviour Therapy Service in south Essex is expanding. This is a great time for highly motivated senior clinical or counselling psychologists passionate about transformation to join the team and develop the service.

We seek professionals motivated to change lives by focusing on patient care that helps individuals flourish, focusing on their well-being and self-determination and aiming for their optimal development. This will applied via a strength-based approach to their learning disability practice.

Roles are available as part of a well-established, highly professional multidisciplinary team of psychologists, psychiatrists, therapists and nurses.

We offer multiple options for further professional development through wider collaborative working with the Essex Learning Disability Partnership (ELDP), including the development of neuro-developmental disorders, dementia and challenging behaviour pathways.

Main duties of the job

Responsibilities:
  • Work with individual clients to enable them to live their best lives, involving their family/carers, support staff and others involved in their lives.
  • Provide specialist assessments of clients referred to the team based on the appropriate use, interpretation and integration of complex psychological data.
  • Formulate plans for psychological treatment and/or management of the presenting difficulties based on appropriate conceptual psychological frameworks.
  • Evaluate treatment options, considering theoretical and therapeutic models and assisting clients in making decisions about treatment options.
  • Manage a team of assistant psychologists and trainee counselling/clinical psychologists.
  • Work autonomously within professional guidelines and exercise responsibility for the systematic governance of psychological practice within the service/team.
  • Utilise your research skills for audit, policy and service development and research.

Person Specification

Education/Qualifications

Essential

  • Post-graduate doctoral level training in clinical/counselling psychology (or its equivalent for those trained prior to (1996) as accredited by the BPS


Knowledge

Essential

  • Experience of specialist psychological assessment and treatment of clients across the full range of care settings, including outpatient, community, primary care and in patient settings.
  • Experience of working with a wide variety of client groups, across the whole life course presenting problems that reflect the full range of clinical severity including maintaining a high degree of professionalism in the face of highly emotive and distressing problems, verbal abuse and the threat of physical abuse.
  • Demonstrate further specialist training/experience through having received a minimum of 50 hours clinical supervision or working as a specialist clinical / counselling psychologist over a minimum of 18 months, or an alternative agreed by the Head of Psychology.


Skills/experience

Essential

  • Evidence of continuing professional development as recommended by the BPS.
  • Skills in providing consultation to other professional and non-professional groups.
