Job Details

An exciting opportunity has arisen in the Eastbourne Crisis Home Treatment Team for a registered nurse, qualified social worker or registered occupational therapist with experience of working with people in a community mental health setting.

You would be a key part of our multi-disciplinary service for adults with mental health challenges. This is challenging work but we receive very positive feedback from our service users and carers and Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust has recently achieved Outstanding for the care it provides.

Main duties of the job

You will need to be caring, compassionate and a good communicator, with a commitment to improving the lives of our service users through creative, evidence based practice. You will be responsible for working collaboratively with service users and their carers on the team caseload to create care plans that meet their needs and maximise independence.

You will need to be keen to embrace new ways of working and enthusiastic about improving clinical practice in line with the latest research and organisational learning.

If you are from the nursing profession this post can offer the Senior development programme: This is an up to 12-month structured programme for band 5 nurses. This provides a framework to enable them to meet the capabilities and competencies with a view to transition into that role.

This post is also suitable for Newly Qualified Social workers, SPFT have negotiated an in principle agreement with ESCC that NQSW can take a place on the ESCC ASYE programme.

Job responsibilities

This post will involve working with adults with complex mental health needs. CRHT is an alternative to hospital admission and you will be expected to support both the client and their carers. You will also need to be able to work cohesively with other services both within our Trust, and with other partner agencies.

All our clinicians are given opportunities to develop and grow as professionals in the organisation. We provide regular supervision, a supportive working environment and access to training opportunities to assist you to realise your potential.

We are building a new hospital in Bexhill to replace our inpatient services at the Department of Psychiatry. This means that, if you are successful in your application, you will be asked to transfer to the new facilities when they open in 2025.

Person Specification



  • Registered Nurse with current registration (appropriate to the role)
  • Completion of Mentorship course/ ENB equivalent
  • Evidence of Continuous professional development

Knowledge/ Experience


  • Significant post qualifying experience in the relevant care group
  • Experience of working alongside people with complex health problems in the designated care group
  • Experience of supervising staff
  • Experience of managing a caseload
  • Experience of providing a range of clinical interventions to people in the designated care group with a variety of health problems
  • Experience of working consultatively with professionals
  • Experience of conducting clinical assessments including risk assessments
  • Experience of partnership working within and across various statutory teams and agencies
  • Previous experience working in the community



  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to communicate in a clear and unambiguous way
  • Excellent negotiation and conflict resolution skills
  • Ability to develop effective professional relationships
  • Establish and maintain communication with individuals, families, carers and groups about difficult or complex matters overcoming any differences in communication

  • Frequent and intense concentration in client assessment and formulation, both individual and group work with up to 5 hours a day in direct face to face client contact
  • Liaison with multi-agencies at times, especially in emergencies requiring mental effort to coordinate possible management of a crisis
  • The ability to multi task and mental adaptation to different unpredictable situations
