You will need to have excellent communication skills and enjoy working as part of a large multi-disciplinary team. You will need to be friendly, approachable, adaptable, flexible, willing to learn new skills and be committed to continuous professional development.

You will need to hold a recognised Pharmacy Technician qualification (BTEC in Pharmaceutical Sciences, NVQ level 3 or equivalent)and an accredited checking qualification are essential. You must be a technician registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council. We are recruiting Pharmacy Technicians with hospital experience.

Main duties of the job

This exciting opportunity is to lead the Pharmacy Dispensary team. You will work with other Senior pharmacy technicians in managing the technical pharmacy services to SHSC. Ensuring the safe and effective supply, procurement and distribution of medicines throughout the trust. You will manage the technical dispensary staff and monitor the overall operational procedures undertaken by them in the dispensary. You will work with other Senior pharmacy technicians in delivering the medicines management ward service, community service plus support training and development and expansion of the team.

SHSC has EPMA (electronic prescribing and medicines administrations) throughout the trust In-patient sites.

Job description

Job responsibilities

  • Manage the dispensary service to ensure safe and effective supply and distribution of medicines in line with best practice and Wholesale Dealers License.
  • Manage, appraise and develop the technicians and assistant technical officers.
  • Management of the procurement of Pharmaceuticals and pharmaceutical contracts.
  • Manage and maintain the EPMA pharmacy computer system.
  • Management of the phlebotomy service.
  • Participate in continuous personal development.
  • Support the Responsible Officer to deliver services in line with Wholesale Dealers License.
  • To promote the professional image of the pharmacy by ensuring that the standard of dress and behaviour reflects the professional service provided by the department.
  • To participate in annual personal development review (PDR) and to agree to training objectives set.
  • To maintain continued professional development (CPD) as required by the GPhC or other registered body and assist in relevant audits in accordance with clinical governance requirements.
