We have an excellent and exciting opportunity for a highly motivated and suitably experienced Sister/Charge nurse to join Brearley 2 at the Northern General Hospital. Brearley 2 is a 28-bedded ward caring for elderly patients who are acutely unwell.

We are looking for dynamic, enthusiastic, committed and aspirational people who want to do a good job and fulfil their own personal objectives and goals and make a difference to patients and the staff alike.

Applications are invited from experienced Registered Nurses who ideally have experience in caring for the elderly.

Possession of a Post Basic Qualification or equivalent is essential. Completion of management/leadership development would be desirable.

Candidates must be able to demonstrate clinical expertise and management and leadership skills. It would be expected that applicants would be able to demonstrate excellent skills in clinical practice and organisational ability, together with superb communication and interpersonal skills.

Main duties of the job

JOB PURPOSE
  • To develop and provide specialised programmes of nursing care to a diverse range of patients and support to carers on the ward.
  • To lead a team of qualified, support and student team members.
  • To take charge of the ward/dept regularly
  • Support the Senior Sister/Senior Charge Nurse in ensuring the highest standard and quality of nursing care is delivered

Experience

Essential

  • Extensive experience in acute care setting
  • Evidence of personal and professional development
  • Ability to work autonomously
  • An understanding of patient flow in a busy acute area


Desirable

  • Evidence of management experience


Qualifications

Essential

  • Registered Nurse (valid with NMC)
  • Postgraduate diploma in Nursing Studies or significant experience that would equate to a postgraduate diploma
  • Mentoring Qualification

  • Evidence of academic achievement, working towards Degree level of study.

  • Commitment to continuous personal development.

  • Successful completion of clinical and management training
