Senior Clinical Practitioner - Band 7, full-time, permanent

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Occupational Therapist, Mental Health Nurse or Social Worker.

The Eastbourne Assessment and Treatment Service based in Eastbourne provides a lively multi-disciplinary service for adults with severe mental illness. The service sits within the beautiful landscape of the South Downs National Park and is only a few miles from the cosmopolitan city of Brighton. Over the next five years our community mental health services are undergoing a huge transformation as we move towards a more integrated system.

As an experienced practitioner in the mental health field, you will be providing supervision and leadership to junior members of the team and joining our clinical leadership team to develop and implement service improvements.

You will also hold a small, capped, caseload of complex cases where your level of expertise is required and you will available to consult on and joint work other cases which require specialist input. Increasingly the role will involve providing consultation to primary care and third sector providers and building effective partnerships to build our new integrated model.

Main duties of the job

To be successful as a Senior practitioner within the ATS you will be:
  • Registered with Social Work England, HCPC or NMC
  • Excellent at forming relationships with our partners
  • A service-user focussed practitioner

It would also be advantageous if you have:
  • Experience of working with adults with severe mental illness
  • Experience of working in a community team

Job responsibilities

To be responsible and provide effective leadership as a part of a leadership team. To provide specialist knowledge and guidance for a clinical team providing a high quality service within the resources available within a defined area, and specifically to deliver on the following key areas: Where required, take the role of clinical and professional supervisor for newly qualified staff and junior staff to take a lead role in maintaining and building robust partnerships with our other agencies including attending statutory meetings to act as a Lead within the service for a professional group, providing specialist expertise to help improve the service.

Person Specification



  • Degree/Diploma in occupational therapy
  • Evidence of post qualification study
  • Registration with the HPC as an occupational therapist
  • Practice Education training
  • Training in the use of standardised occupational therapy assessment tools



  • Extensive experience as a qualified occupational therapist in mental health
  • Broad experience of working with clients with a range of mental health problems
  • Experience of both group and individual work
  • Experience of multidisciplinary working
  • Experience of supervising staff and students
  • Experience as a Care Coordinator
  • Experience in a clinical area related to the post
  • Leadership experience
  • Experience in applying a range of assessment tools and a comprehensive knowledge of occupational therapy clinical approaches used in mental health
