Hello my name is Giuseppe Labriola, and I am the Deputy Chief Nurse at The Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust. This is a role that I am enormously proud to hold and an organisation I am enormously proud to work in.

I am now looking to build our corporate nursing team and as such I am excited to recruit to this key role of Lead Professional Advocate for the organisation, to join me, and my existing team.

We have a well established team of PNA's and PMA's with an ambitious strategy in development. This is an exciting time to join the organisation as we welcome our first cohort of Allied Health Professional's to complete the A-EQUIP programme therefore providing a full professional advocate service to nurses, midwives and allied health professionals across the organisation.

Main duties of the job

I am looking for an exceptional, inspirational, dynamic and highly experienced senior nurse or midwife whose role is key to support the implementation of the A-EQUIP model and lead our Professional Nurse/Professional Midwifery Advocate service across the organisation. This will include working across the Integrated Care System, East of England region and nationally, strategically implementing the programme for the organisation improving our staff experience of working within the organisation.

You will have an in-depth expert knowledge in quality improvement, clinical/and or system transformation and assurance. You will be required to negotiate, problem solve, think strategically and be able to build effective relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders.

You will also hold a corporate portfolio on my behalf and will lead this across the organisation. This role will provide the opportunity to learn, grow and achieve your professional ambitions.

The Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust (PAHT) provides a full range of general acute, outpatient and diagnostic services at The Princess Alexandra Hospital in Harlow, the Herts and Essex Hospital in Bishop's Stortford, and St Margaret's Hospital in Epping.

We employ 3,500 staff and serve a local population of around 350,000 people living in west Essex and east Hertfordshire, centred on the M11 corridor and the towns of Harlow, Bishop's Stortford and Epping. Person Specification

Education and qualifications


  • Registered Nurse/Registered Midwife
  • Educated to Masters or willingness to undertake
  • Completed Professional Nurse/Midwife Advocate Training Programme


  • Teaching Qualification such as practice assessor or mentorship
  • Previous Supervisor of Midwives

Knowledge and Experience


  • Demonstrate understanding of the role of the Professional Nurse/Midwife Advocate within the context of national governance policies and procedures
  • Evidence of implementation of QI methodology.
  • Demonstrate interest and commitment to the professional development of others
  • Experience of leading and delivering change through others
  • Experience in report writing and presenting information in a range of ways
  • Evidence of working in partnership with internal and external stakeholders.


  • Able to shape and implement a vision for future service development
  • Evidence of effective team working to deliver and improve services.



  • Able to demonstrate a level of personal confidence necessary to overcome barriers
  • Ability to critically analyse complex information and evaluate a range of options to identify service improvements
  • Ability to adapt personal style in order to influence others and gain support for ideas.
