An exciting Band 6 opportunity has arisen on Arrow ward for an experienced and proactive nurse who will care for patients with chronic and acute respiratory conditions.

The respiratory ward currently located on the 1st floor is a fast paced ward, caring for patients with complex respiratory conditions. You should have experience caring for patients with COPD, Lung cancers, Asthma, chest drains and those requiring oxygen. The respiratory ward provides level 2 respiratory care and you will need to be competent with the management of patients requiring CPAP,NIV and HFNO. All staff in the multidisciplinary team work very closely to provide a high standard of quality care for our Respiratory patients.

The successful candidate will support the ward sister in developing the team, leading and managing them to provide high quality care for a group of patients with complex medical and social needs. They should be supportive of junior staff in developing their skills and knowledge whilst being committed to develop their own clinical and leadership skills.

Main duties of the job

To be responsible for promoting and implementing practice conducive to the development of high quality patient care by providing professional, clinical and managerial leadership. To take charge of the Unit in the absence of the Sister/Charge Nurse and provide support and guidance to all staff.
  • To support the Unit Senior Sister in the implementation of their role.
  • To monitor and report on clinical and professional standards and take action where appropriate as required.
  • To ensure effective liaison and professional relationships with all members of the multidisciplinary teams.
  • To ensure adherence to the Trust's Health and Safety policies.
  • To monitor, manage and report clinical workload to ensure the effective deployment of manpower, taking all possible actions to minimise risk when optimum staffing levels are not available.
  • To undertake any other duties required by the line manager appropriate to the grade and relevant to the post.
  • Effectively communicate complex, sensitive or contentious information to the multidisciplinary team gaining their co-operation.
  • In the absence of the Unit Sister ensure the clinical environment is adequately staffed and take all possible action to minimise risks when optimum staffing levels are compromised.To ensure clinical incidents / near misses within the sphere of responsibility are managed in a timely manner. In the absence of the Sister report actions taken to minimize risks.To maintain confidentiality at all times.

Experience

  • Previous experience within relevant clinical area
  • Proven experience and achievements at Band 5 or equivalent
  • Experience of teaching within clinical areas
