Band 5 Staff Nurse, Stroke Unit

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the team on Elm A/HASU, we are seeking to recruit a highly enthusiastic and motivated team player who will work within the team providing high quality patient care.

The department specialises in acute stroke care and stroke/neuro rehabilitation and compromises a 10 bedded hyper acute stroke unit, with 33 acute stroke and neuro rehabilitation beds.

The stroke department is a caring and friendly environment providing specialist stroke care to patients in the acute and rehabilitation phase following a stroke as well as providing neuro-rehabilitation care to patients following a head injury.

Our aim is to provide holistic care for stroke and neuro-rehabilitation patients, utilising a co-ordinated multidisciplinary approach, resulting in optimal patient outcomes. We work with a mixture of specialist nursing teams, medics and therapists to provide an individualised and supportive environment for patients in which to deliver this specialised care for patients following a stroke.

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant will be committed to providing an excellent standard of nursing care to our diverse group of patients, some who have complex needs. This is an excellent opportunity to demonstrate and increase your knowledge, experience and skills in stroke and rehabilitation.

Successful applicants must be able to provide high quality safe nursing care which is driven by patient experience and evidence based practice. Previous experience of nursing stroke patients or patients with tracheostomy is desirable, however not essential as training will be given.

The role will involve working across the ward on both the hyper acute stroke unit and the rehabilitation side within the nursing team and alongside other professionals in our highly motivated multidisciplinary team.

Our 5 key principles demonstrate our belief in the delivery of 'safe, high quality care every time'.
  • Being a clinically led organisation
  • Quality and safety at the heart
  • A positive patient experience every time
  • A great place to work
  • Managing our money well

As an organisation we are serious about supporting a diverse workforce that reflects our local community and are very much focused on being an inclusive and compassionate place to work.

Across the North East and North Cumbria we are working together to deliver our ambition to be the greenest region in England by 2030. There is an expectation for all staff to support this by familiarising yourself with the Trust's sustainability initiatives such as waste and recycling, going paperless, videoconferencing, sustainable transport and others.

We encourage you to think about what you can do as an individual and within your team to contribute in to embedding carbon reduction into the everyday running of our organisation.
