To lead, develop, manage and monitor the Rheumatology service to provide a first class, cost effective service to patients and to create a supportive, forward thinking, dynamic environment to staff by front line leadership. The post holder will provide a visible, accessible and authoritative presence in rheumatology care to which staff, patients and families can turn for assistance, advice and support. The post holder will ensure that the clinical environment is of the highest standard possible by monitoring and improving administrative and support to the clinical areas that they are accountable.

Main duties of the job

Main duties and responsibilities
  • To provide leadership, advice and guidance to the Rheumatology nursing team in order that the quality, financial and human resources aspects of the service are of the highest standard.
  • Ensure that clinical credibility and expert (extended) practice is maintained in line with NMC responsibilities.
  • Maintain a presence in clinical areas of working with staff and patients in an advisory, teaching or support capacity and maintain professional competence, authority and credibility.
  • Supervise nursing teams in practice areas, supporting their development of leadership skills through role modelling, setting learning objectives and identifying training or educational needs.
  • Participate in the development of clinical policies, in conjunction with the clinical nurse educators and Consultants.
  • Work closely with the General Manager and Deputy Head of Nursing, to implement innovative methods of service delivery, which promotes best practice in patient care, improves access and involves users in planning, implementation and evaluation of service.
  • Promote and monitor the patient experience by managing complaints and concerns. Listening to patients' experiences to improve care accordingly. Working with PALS to ensure effective communication.
  • Promote and improve standards of care by auditing the standards of nursing care against agreed performance indicators.
  • Develop the nurses role according to the CNO 10 key roles for nurses.

Qualifications

Essential

  • First level nursing registration- RGN or appropriate AHP. Master level qualification in a relevant field. Independent prescriber Evidence of continuing professional development relevant to area of expertise. ENB 998 or teaching and assessing equivalent.


Desirable

  • Diploma in management

Essential

  • The ability to converse at ease with patients and their families and to provide advice in accurate spoken and written English is essential for the post. Clinical credibility and knowledge of evidence based clinical practice. IT skills, including email, excel spread sheets. Highly developed verbal and written communication skills. influencing and negotiating skills. Staff development and empowerment. Ability to lead a team. Ability to manage conflicting and complex issues. Flexibility. Ability to prioritise workload and meet deadlines
