We have an exciting opportunity for a pharmacist interested in starting or developing a career in the cancer speciality, based at Wexham Park Hospital.

The role will involve working closely with the multidisciplinary clinical haematology and oncology teams and with the pharmacy aseptic services team.

Previous experience in a clinical setting would be beneficial, however we will accept applications from pharmacists looking for a new start with a keen interest in the care of cancer patients, and we will invest in pharmacists with a commitment to continual professional development.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will provide specialist clinical cancer services to the haematology day unit, haematology clinics, oncology wards, support clinical trials and support the aseptic services unit in pharmacy.

To clinically verify prescriptions for Systemic Anti-Cancer Therapies (SACT) after completion of internal and national competency-based assessments.

To support the aseptic pharmacy team in all matters relating to aseptic preparation of pharmaceutical products within the Trust, including appropriate outsourcing of aseptic products purchased from external providers as appropriate.

Job responsibilities

To act as a Specialist Clinical Pharmacist in Cancer services, providing clinical support to the delivery of chemotherapy prescriptions after completion of competency based assessments.

To support the pharmacy team in understanding the scope of technical and professional guidance on all matters relating to aseptic preparation of pharmaceutical products within the Trust, including appropriate outsourcing of aseptic products purchased from external providers as appropriate.

To support the aseptic unit according to Improving Outcomes Guidance (IOG) document. Implement Trust policies in relation to the pharmaceutical care of haematology and oncology patients.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • MPharm
  • GPhC registration


Desirable

  • Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy or Equivalent
  • Independent Prescribing qualification


Skills

Essential

  • Excellent communication skills- Demonstrated in writing
  • Organisational Skills- Evidence in application
  • Excellent interpersonal skill- Evidence in application


Desirable

  • IT technical skills
  • Evidence of haem/Onc CPD
  • IT skill - Use of E-chemo prescribing systems e.g Aria


Experience

Essential

  • NHS Hospital experience


Desirable

  • Clinical Pharmacy experience in the care of cancer patients
  • Previous experience working in Aseptic Units
  • Previous experience with clinical trial activity
