Applications are invited for a fixed term, Band 5 position.

25 hours per week (days to be determined) to cover maternity leave until up to April 2025.

This post would be suitable for newly qualified graduates or Orthoptists with some experience wishing to develop their skills. We are looking for a highly motivated Orthoptist to join our department of 6 Orthoptists, 6 Ophthalmologists, a school vision screener and clinical and admin support workers. The successful candidate will need to demonstrate a good range of organisational and communication skills, as well as a flexible approach to their work.

The Department of Orthoptics provides services at Rotherham Community Health Centre. The post offers the opportunity to gain a wide variety of clinical experience in all aspects of Orthoptics including Paediatric and Adult Ocular Motility and Low Vision clinics.

We are an accredited clinical placement centre, committed to the teaching of undergraduate Orthoptic students, as well as medical students, pre-registration Optometrists and other healthcare professionals.

The department encourages regular involvement in CPD and take part in departmental clinical audit, as well as personal review / development processes. In addition to a degree /diploma in Orthoptics, HCPC registration is mandatory.

Main duties of the job

To undertake accurate Orthoptic assessments, diagnosis and treatment of adults and paediatric patients referred to the orthoptic department. To record all Patient contacts accurately and ensure information is passed on in alignment with information governance guidelines.
