We have an opportunity for an enthusiastic experienced MSK Physiotherapist to join our team within our Portsmouth locality. The role of the Team Leader is integral to our high quality of care delivery. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work closely with our FCPs, Specialist MSK Services, Persistent Pain, Hydrotherapy, Adolescent MSK and Pelvic Health.

You will be part of a peer group of Team Leaders working in Pathways to allow you to specialise and grow in areas of interest. you will have the opportunity to be involved in our Telephone FCP service that underpins our large FCP service within the locality.

Your mentorship with be both from he operational leadership support but also the clinical specialists, Advanced Clinical practitioners, Pathway leads and MSK Consultants in all areas .

You will be responsible for managing a team ensuring that the assessment and treatment of musculoskeletal patients is optimal.

Main duties of the job

To be professionally and legally responsible and accountable for all aspects of your own work including the management of patients in your own care and that of your team.

Use advanced clinical reasoning skills and a variety of assessment techniques to provide accurate diagnosis.

Formulate accurate/realistic prognosis, recommend best course of intervention, including onward referral as necessary and ensuring appropriate transfer of care when non-musculoskeletal pathology is suspected.

To have a strong working knowledge of the role and appropriate use of relevant investigations in facilitating diagnosis and choice of treatment, understanding the information limitations derived from these and the relative sensitivity and specificity of particular diagnostic tests e.g. X-Rays / blood tests.

To work in close and timely collaboration with GP's and Advanced Practice Clinicians within the Specialist MSK & FCP Service when suspecting urgent investigations are appropriate, in line with MSK Pathway imaging guidelines.

To interpret and act on relevant investigation results to aid diagnosis and management plans of patients in close collaboration with GP's, Advanced Practice Clinicians within the Specialist MSK & FCP Service and Secondary Care consultants.

To deliver programmes of supported self-management, in ways that facilitate behavioural change, optimise individuals'' physical activity, fulfilment of personal goals and independence using a person centred approach

Person Specification



  • Professional UK registration e.g., HCPC
  • Degree level education or equivalent knowledge & skills gained through any combination of alternative study or employment experience
  • Post graduate training in clinical skills
  • Evidence or portfolio of post graduate continued development
  • Certificate/Diploma in Management & Leadership or relevant equivalent experience


  • Membership of specialist interest group



  • Evidence of Continued Professional Development (CPD)
  • Evidence of implementing significant changes or service developments that promote good practice
