East London NHS Foundation Trust currently provides mental health and learning disability services in Luton and Bedfordshire. The Bedfordshire Mental Health service has an exciting opportunity for the post of a Band 7 Clinical Nurse Manager at Poplars Ward in Houghton Regis, Dunstable.

Poplars Ward is a 17-bedded Older People's Assessment and Treatment Unit in Dunstable; providing high quality person-centred care to service users with functional mental health needs.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for a committed and passionate Clinical Nurse Manager. Interested candidates will need to demonstrate previous experience in a leadership or managerial position within a multidisciplinary team.

The successful candidate will need to be passionate about providing compassionate care and must be efficient and well organised. They will need to be good role models, have excellent communication skills, and be able to work with this vulnerable patient group and support carers in time of distress. They will need to demonstrate knowledge and skills of caring for both the physical and mental health needs of this patient group, and to be able to ensure that staff are providing care to the expected standard. The individual needs to bring a proven record of leading quality care and service improvement, also the development of creativity and inclusive care environments.

We are seeking applicants with significant front line in-patient clinical experience and confidence to meet the challenges of this role.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, dedicated, forward-thinking person who is keen to build on multi-disciplinary work and the provision of high-quality care.

You will be expected to build strong links with patients and carers, and involve them in all aspects of care delivery as appropriate. The candidate is expected to have strong leadership skills and act as an excellent role model to all members of staff taking an active part in their training and development.

Person Specification Education/ Qualification/ Training Essential
  • Registered Nurse (Mental Health) OR Registered Nurse (Learning Difficulty) OR Registered Nurse (Adult)
Desirable
  • Masters qualification or equivalent experience
  • Specialist Area Training
  • Leadership / Management Training
Experience Essential
  • Significant experience of management and leadership roles at band 6 level or above
  • Working with people with mental health problems/ learning disabilities
  • Managing challenging and aggressive behaviour
  • Working within a multidisciplinary team environment
  • Experience of providing individualized and culturally sensitive care
  • Supporting and supervising students and junior staff
