An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic healthcare professional with teaching experience and a passion for clinical education to join Hampshire Hospitals Medicine Division as a Divisional Clinical Educator.

We are looking for an experienced nurse who is an enthusiastic, self-motivated individual with proven facilitation and leadership qualities.

You will be involved in delivering an extremely high standard of care whilst providing support, training and education to our nursing and wider workforce. We recognise that education and leadership positively influence the quality of patient care therefore working in partnership with the Divisional Chief Nurses and Matrons, you will help to develop, lead and implement a programme of education across the division, aligned to divisional priorities.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will be expected to:
  • Deliver face to face training to staff, in groups and one to one sessions
  • Provide support to ward staff, identifying gaps in knowledge and working with individuals towards a competency framework
  • Undertake assessment to confirm that staff have met the required standard of competence
  • Act as a role model for provision of high quality and safe care
  • Work Closely with the Divisional Chief Nurse and the Professional and Practice Development Team, ensuring requirements are prioritised and clinical standards are met and maintained

Job description

Job responsibilities

  • To deliver practice-based education for clinical nursing care across the Medicine Division.
  • To promote the Division as a good learning environment, to ensure care is evidence based and meets the individual needs of patients being cared for in Medicine.
  • In partnership with the ADoN for Non-Medical Education, Deputy Divisional Chief Nurse and Clinical Matrons, to support the professional and clinical development of staff to improve practice standards using competency-based frameworks.
  • To undertake regular audits around clinical care delivery and to develop educational training packages to ensure the needs of patients are met.
  • To use effective leadership skills and lead by example and undertake clinical practice, working alongside staff providing supervision, teaching and assessment of competence
  • To support all nursing staff in their professional and personal development.
  • To support Clinical Matrons to ensure there are robust systems in place to ensure the effective induction and on-going training of all staff.

Essential

  • Should be able to work across all three HHFT sites
  • Should be willing to work flexible hours on occasions


Training & Qualifications

Essential

  • Professional Nursing Registration
  • Degree level education or equivalent knowledge and skills gained through any combination of alternative study, or employment history
  • Teaching qualification / Mentorship
  • Aware of current issues within nursing and health care at local and national levels


Desirable

  • Leadership & management training


Experience & Knowledge

Essential

  • Band 6 or above experience in Medicine or a related specialty
  • Extensive post registration experience and strong evidence of leadership and organisational skills
  • Experience in developing nursing practice


Desirable

  • Research awareness / experience in acute setting
  • Has experience of working in busy general ward


Skills & Ability

Essential

  • Highly developed interpersonal skills and able to develop effective relationships with a wide range of professionals and learners both within and outside of the organisation
  • Coordinates and prioritises own workload of patients when working in clinical practice and can mentor others to do the same
  • Able to readily adapt between working independently and within a team
  • Proficient in the ability to assess patients, analyse situations, intervene appropriately whilst maintaining patient advocacy and ensuring staff support all in a timely manner


Desirable

  • Evidence of nurse practice development and management of change
