We are currently recruiting an experienced qualified SCPHN School Nurse to join Whittington's Haringey School Nursing Service. The applicant should have a strong public health focus and commitment in delivering and improving the health and well-being of our diverse school aged population.

Main duties of the job

A highly motivated and innovative School Nurse with excellent communication skills, you will play a leading role in delivering the 5-19 Healthy Child Programme. We are redesigning our service in line with the modernised 'Universal in reach- Personalised in response' school nursing delivery model and require a SCPHN School Nurse who is passionate about achieving the best outcomes for children, young people and their families. The post holder will need to demonstrate excellent leadership to a team of School Nurses and will be responsible for a defined caseload of secondary and primary schools. The post holder will be expected to work with the School Nurse Localities Manager in facilitating service development.

Job responsibilities

The post holder will need to demonstrate excellent leadership to a team of School Nurses and will be responsible for a defined caseload of secondary and primary schools. The post holder will be expected to work with the School Nurse Localities Manager in meeting service performance and capturing data.

Applicants must hold a Specialist Community Public Health Qualification in School Nursing. This is a definite requirement for the position and applicants who apply without the qualification will NOT be shortlisted.

Qualifications

Essential

  • School Nursing professional qualification with entry onto the 3rd part of the NMC Register
  • Educated to degree level in equivalent public health/health promotion field
  • Managemnet/Leadership qualification (desirable)


Desirable

  • Management experience in a health service setting.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITY

Essential

  • Excellent communication skills: IT, written and oral
  • Willingness to lead and support management of change.
  • High levels of clinical skills, with the ability to identify, respond to and evaluate health needs, including the delivery of public health programmes.
  • Knowledge of current legislation and national guidance relating to children.
  • Ability to apply research to practice.
  • Understanding of the safeguarding process and child protection procedures, clinical governance arrangements and the ability to make decisions in these areas.
  • Ability to set personal and team objectives, and manage time, priorities and stressful situations
  • Ability to manage other members of staff and delegate work appropriately and safely.
  • Ability to work as part of a team.
  • Evidence of Continuing Professional Development.
  • Commitment to the development of excellent services, which focus on improved outcomes for children.
  • Awareness of Equal Opportunities and Valuing Diversity
  • Knowledge of infection control standards.


Experience

Essential

  • Previous management experience (desirable)
  • Managing organisational change and change transition
  • Relevant post qualification experience as a school nurse
