We are excited to have two new Senior Practitioner roles for Secure Services: one to lead on Reducing Restrictive Practice and Ligature Reduction, and one to lead on Physical Health.

This post creates a new opportunity for clinical leadership, working across all ten Secure Services wards, offering training and supervision, completing audits, delivering QI projects and ensuring compliance with best practice. The post holder will take the lead in preparing reports about RRP and Ligature Reduction, and representing the locality in Trusty wide meetings.

The service has a strong history with Reducing Restrictive Practice, winning awards and being part of the National RRP strategy. The post holder will form a strong network of allies, both within the locality, the Trust and the Provider Collaborative.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will lead and inspire the service to become outstanding in Reducing Restrictive Practice and Ligature Reduction:
  • Deliver bitesize training on wards
  • Develop a network of RRP leads across all clinical wards and teams
  • Deliver induction sessions as needed
  • Contribute to regular audits, ensuring compliance with Trust expectations
  • Obtain data and prepare reports for Locality Quality and Standards and Locality RRP projects
  • Attend Trustwide meetings representing the Locality
  • Deliver Quality Improvement Projects, together with QI lead
  • Engage with National Forums as appropriate to ensure that Secure Services are in line with Best Practice
  • Provide management and / or clinical supervision to leads in this clinical area
  • Support RRP proejects across the service in response to National RRP strategy
  • Maintain links with Trust RRP leads to ensure compliance with Trust strategy
  • Contribute to and gather required data to meet SWPC and NHSE contract requirements in line with contract requirements
  • Development of Standard Operating Procedures in line with contract requirements
  • Maintenance of Continued Professional Development in order to maintain and develop skills to deliver best patient care.

Person Specification

Essential

  • oCurrent relevant registration with relevant professional bodies
  • oSubstantial post-registration experience in learning disabilities gained working in front-line services (e.g. mental health/LD/secure settings (e.g. prison, secure unit, forensic setting or other criminal justice setting)), undertaking assessments and delivering therapeutic interventions including the most complex clinical cases
  • oExperience of writing risk assessments/managing risk and writing reports.
  • oDemonstrates a highly developed understanding of care in this context, and the role of learning disabilities/ASD/mental health services in the delivery of care and able to show how this has been delivered in practice
  • oSubstantial experience of engaging with therapeutic interventions for service users in community settings.
  • oExperience working in range of mental health/LD/ secure settings (e.g. prison, secure unit, forensic setting or other criminal justice setting.
  • oHighly developed verbal communication skills, able to engage effectively with people at all levels even when a more assertive approach is needed.
