South Tees has secured funding for three in-service STP posts within Immunology, Biochemistry and Haematology. You will primarily be based at The James Cook University Hospital for your training and the post is 37.5 hours per week.

About the programme

The training post is salaried at NHS Agenda for Change Band 6. Posts are funded by NHSE and are supernumerary. On graduating, you would be eligible for statutory Clinical Scientist registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and would be able to apply for Clinical Scientist roles in the Health Service.

As a trainee you will be employed within the departments of Immunology, Haematology or Biochemistry, for a three-year fixed-term training period. During this time, you will complete:

• a part-time master's degree (fully funded)
• a programme of workplace training, using an online e-portfolio (OneFile)
• a final assessment of competence

The curriculum for the programme is comprised of a series of core and scientific modules. Each of these modules is made up of two parts:

• academic learning delivered and assessed in the university
• work-based learning and training where you develop and apply your academic and clinical knowledge and skills in the NHS workplace

Main duties of the job

In conjunction with and supported by their designated Training Officer, the Trainee Healthcare Scientist will be responsible for their own progression through the training programme, for completing the learning outcomes as outlined in their curriculum and for progressing through a mixture of work-based training activities and assessments and undertaking the complementary academic master's programme at the designated Higher Education Institution.

At all times the Trainee Healthcare Scientist is expected to work within standard operating policies and procedures of the host department and NHS organisation and adhere to high standards of professionalism, health and safety, risk reduction, confidentiality, patient care and dignity, and respect for equality and diversity as set out in the NHS Constitution.

The Trainee Healthcare Scientist within either Biochemistry, Haematology or Immunology will be employed by the host department for a fixed term of 3 years, during which time they will work through a full-time programme combining work-based learning and a part-time academic programme at master's (MSc) level.

The post holder will work a 37.5 hour week. The post holder will follow the curriculum as detailed on the National School of Healthcare Science website.
