As a Band 6 Children's Research Nurse at St Mary's Hospital, you will be at the forefront of co-ordinating and delivering clinical trials for children, young people and their families. You will work as part of a dedicated team of paediatric clinical research nurses and practitioners seeking to improve clinical care for children and young people from the advancements made through findings from our clinical research trials. You will be highly organised with excellent attention to detail and a commitment to providing the best standard of care to our research partcipants and their families. The post is based on the Children's Clinical Research Facility (CCRF), a purpose-built facility for the delivery of clinical trials specifically in children. The CCRF team work to promote awareness of clinical research in the Trust and support staff with development of their own careers in clinical and academic research. There will be a requirement to work across the different sites at Imperial when necessary but mainly St Mary's and Hammersmith Hospitals where the paediatric and women's health services are located. The role will suit enthusiastic individuals, looking to build a career in research and who are eager to learn more about the latest assessments, diagnostic and preventative measures particularly in relation to child health.

Main duties of the job

You will be responsible for the safe and professional delivery of clinical research trials for children and their families in compliance with GCP and national and local research governance standards. You will have good, foundational clinical knowledge and experience of caring for patients in a paediatric setting with skills that can be translated into a clinical research nurse role. You will also adhere to local Trust policy and uphold Trust values in the care of our research participants and your own professional conduct. You will act as an expert resource and an ambassador for paediatric clinical research across the Trust in order to positively impact improvements in clinical care for children and young people. You will be a good communicator and be able to work collaboaratively with a variety of multi-disciplinary teams. You will work alongside the existing research staff to independently recruit patients into our clinical trials using the informed consent process and ensure that the studies are delivered as per protocol from initiation to close-out.

Education/ qualifications

Essential

  • Registered nurse or health professional or first degree in life sciences


Desirable

  • Has attained or is working towards a Degree/ Certificate /Diploma in management/ professional nursing issues.


Experience

Essential

  • Relevant clinical experience within research and knowledge of Good Clinical Practice (GCP)
  • Experience of working within NHS environment and with service users
  • Knowledge of National Institute of Health Research (NIHR), its values, aims and structure
  • Experience in managing complex information and storing and retrieving electronic data


Desirable

  • Experience of supervision of junior staff
