We have an exciting opportunity for an accomplished, dynamic and self-motivated research nurse or practitioner to lead the oncology research delivery team at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust. The role offers a valuable opportunity to a skilled research professional who is keen to take on additional responsibilities in a supportive environment. You will work alongside other senior staff to lead a team of research delivery professionals to manage a range of research studies within several specialties - primarily within oncology.
The Team Leader should provide outstanding leadership and day to day management of their clinical research team in the delivery of high quality research. They will lead and support a team of research nurses, practitioners, assistant research practitioners, data and admin staff employed on a range of funding streams (NIHR, academic, BRC, commercial and charity). The role will include patient interactions (e.g. taking informed consent, collecting samples from patients etc) and may involve working in COVID risk managed areas. The role will primarily be based at Charing Cross Hospital with some cross site working expected (Hammersmith and St Mary's Hospitals).
The team leader role requires a sound knowledge of research and patient pathways to support the team in growing and delivering the portfolio. The successful candidate will be high profile and visible, leading by example. They will be exemplary at engaging with new clinicians/sub-specialty areas in research and will require outstanding communication skills to nurture and maintain key relationships across the NHS trust, Imperial College, external sponsors and other research organisations.
As a team leader, you will be an advocate for research within the Trust. The post holder will be expected to take a proactive role in educating both research and clinical staff in research processes, guidelines and pathways. You must have outstanding interpersonal skills, an understanding of scientific protocols and proven ability to manage and prioritise the workload of yourself and the wider team.
The ability to work flexibly across specialties and across hospital sites is an essential aspect of these posts.
The post is a 12 month fixed term appointment. Secondments will also be considered.
Main duties of the job
The Research Team Leader has a key management role in the delivery of the operational aspects of research trials, providing management expertise and input to ensure the timely delivery of the growing portfolio of studies undertaken within Imperial while ensuring the needs of patient care are based at the centre of delivery. The post holder will have operational oversight of one or more speciality research delivery teams, including line managing research nurses/practitioners and/or associates and will support the effective use of infrastructure and resources.
The post holder supports the aims of the Trust to improve the speed, quality, and integration of clinical research, through the successful delivery of clinical research in the NHS. The post holder is a recognised expert in one or more specialities and in the field of clinical research, providing advice, care and support to patients entering clinical trials. He/she will take responsibility for the planning, development and implementation of the clinical research portfolio that reflects the patient population,the work and interests of the local clinical teams.You will provide expert support to colleagues and staff through the research study process, from grant application, to feasibility,to clinical pathways, to study delivery.You will work collaboratively with the wider multidisciplinary team and act as a professional role model,providing clinical care and teaching to staff researchers, research participants and patients
