Job description

Job responsibilities

This post is a for a part time Consultant post working within the Hastings and Rother Community Learning Disability Service, and is one of eleven Learning Disability Consultant Psychiatrist posts within the Trust. The team is co-located with Adult Social Care. There are 2 Community Learning Disability Teams (CLDT) in East Sussex Eastbourne Downs & Weald and Hastings & Rother.

Each CLDT is closely joined with East Sussex County Council Social Care colleagues, and excellent joint working is prioritised by both agencies. Eastbourne Downs & Weald has a full-time Consultant Psychiatrist. The post holder will work alongside another part-time Consultant psychiatrist in the Hastings & Rother CLDT.
  • Develop a clinical leadership role within the multidisciplinary team and across the service as a whole and work with colleagues and management to ensure optimal service delivery.
  • Participate in business planning for the locality and, as appropriate, contribution to the broader strategic and planning work of the Trust.
  • Lead the improvement of the quality of care within the team and contribute to improving quality across the system.


Person Specification

QUALIFICATIONS

Essential

  • MB BS or equivalent medical qualification.


Desirable

  • Qualification or higher degree in medical education, clinical research or management.
  • MRCPsych or equivalent
  • Additional clinical qualifications.


ELIGIBILITY

Essential

  • Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise at the time of appointment.
  • Included on the GMC Specialist Register OR within six months.
  • Approved clinician status OR able to achieve within 3 months of appointment
  • Approved under S12 OR able to achieve with 3 months of appointment


Desirable

  • In good standing with GMC with respect to warning and conditions on practice


CLINICAL SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE

Essential

  • Excellent knowledge in specialty
  • Excellent clinical skills using bio-psycho-social perspective and wide medical knowledge
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English


Desirable

  • Wide range of specialist and sub-specialist experience relevant to post within NHS or comparable service
  • Experience in working with people with Neurodevelopmental Disorders
  • Training in assessing people with Neurodevelopmental Disorders
