We wish to recruit an experienced Research manager who can lead our strategy for Research and development by achieving the following ambitions:
  • Developing high quality research that informs thebest ways to promote the health and well-being of thepopulation we serve
  • Ensuring service users, the public, and health care professionals are centrally involved in the design anddelivery of research
  • Promoting research which aligns to our strategic objectives
  • Strengthening collaborative links with our academic partners to deliver innovative research

We are looking for someone with excellent research, development, and managerial skills who wants to develop their career further in our values-led organisation and has the foresight and ambition to make a difference to the lives of the people we serve.

Main duties of the job

  • The Research manager will be responsible for driving forward the Research Strategy to achieve whole system change in line with the strategic goals of the organisation. This will involve Working with CANDDID and REAL to drive forward the research agenda and make the organisation both more research aware and research active. This will not only involve staff across the organisation, stakeholder including patients, carers and public, HEIs and other NHS Trusts.
  • The research programmes will include projects likely to be highly complex in nature and will have involvement across a range of organisations / services / stakeholders at a locality wide, organisational and / or regional level or National level.

The research manager will be an expert on research and research management, working with a team of senior managers across organisations to develop and implement joint strategy and improvement plans across health and social care which deliver quality research and evaluations contributing to improvement in care.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Health related PHD and Master's degree level qualification in relevant area
  • A recognised research project management experience
  • Evidence of continuing personal and professional development


Knowledge and Expertise

Essential

  • Able to demonstrate development and delivery of programmes of work liaising with Board level colleagues across organisations with different challenges.
  • Able to demonstrate the successful delivery of complex research programmes to achieve strategic objectives
  • To have delivered complex programmes of work across multiple stakeholders in a challenging environment
  • Experience of staff management and leadership acquired through additional training, qualifications and experience over an extended period
  • Ability to provide expert advice acquired through experience of working within health or social care at a senior level over an extended period
  • Knowledge of best practice in health and social care
  • Have in depth professional knowledge gained through experience of working within health and social care in a senior management capacity in order to understand research and research management
  • A high level of understanding of NHS and other government policies and structures
  • An excellent understanding of research strategies and techniques
  • Good appreciation of the political factors that impact upon decision making
  • Understanding of health and social care structures

Experience

Essential

  • Experience of working within health or social care services at a senior and strategic level
  • Well-developed influencing and negotiation skills
  • Involvement in planning projects and managing programmes of research within complex organisational systems
  • Demonstrable experience of budget setting within business cases and evaluation of value for money
  • Experience of delivering research programmes including evaluation and outcomes
  • Experience in the use and interpretation of data
  • Experience of working autonomously to deliver the outcomes required
